Be careful of spiritual pride. And of demanding what God and the Church does not. If it were a terrible thing for a woman to buy and wear make up, jewelry, nice clothes the Church would certainly say so. By having such a hard attitude you are being more Catholic than the Church. If we must find fault let us find it first in ourselves, as Jesus told us to.

Don’t worry about what others do, and don’t judge their hearts (which is strictly up to the Holy Spirit). If you don’t wish to wear make up or jewelry, etc. fine. No one is putting a gun to your back and making you. 😉

We can’t demand others do as we feel best for ourselves or we will end up worse than they by hardening our heart to others instead of loving them and seeing others as better than ourselves, which St. Paul enjoined us to do.
Amen again! People in here say they aren’t judgmental, but then they make assumptions left and right about what peoples motives are. The truth is EVERYONE’S situation is different and you don’t know why they are the way they are. If you judge so harshly to begin with you are really missing out on meeting some of the nicest, most charitable, people who’s lives are focused on being the best person they can in the way they know how.

My mother did not allow me to wear a full face of makeup till I was about 16 years old, and it was in the late 80’s: the time of the big hairstyles and very heavy makeup. I had to remember not to do my hair too high and tone down the makeup as my mother still wasn’t happy about the makeup but eventually accepted it.

I tend to go for much more natural yet decently stylish looks for hair and makeup that I am older and a working woman. Many women at my church wear varying amounts of makeup and style their hair in different ways. I don’t judge other women’s hair styles and makeup choices at Mass, its much more distracting when they are dressed immodestly as hair & makeup doesn’t distract like short & revealing clothes.
