Jewish people being offended by "Merry Christmas"

I should also add that what the media harps on isn’t that non-Christians are offended, but that Christians are being forced to drop “Merry Christmas” from their vocabularies.

That’s what I see a lot of in the media.

What I see IRL is non-Christians talking about being offended by “Merry Christmas”, and that’s the topic of this thread - Jews being offended by Merry Christmas.

I don’t see a lot of that in the media.
 
I work retail, and so if someone mentions Christmas, is wearing a cross, or something else that would indicate that they celebrate Christmas, I’ll wish them a merry Christmas, if nothing indicates they celebrate it, I’ll wish them a happy holiday.

As for jews, while I can’t speak for all of us, I’ll say that in general, that of all the things we are thinking about this time of year, what to do about people who say “Merry Christmas” doesn’t even make the list.
 
I think that most of that “Happy Holidays” stuff is bunk. A greeter wished me a Merry Christmas when I left Walmart yesterday. Yep, Walmart. The evil empire does allow “Merry Christmas” despite what the media claims.

I bet more people say “Happy Holidays” because of these flase reports than because they’ve been told to.

I’ll say Happy Holidays, when I mean Merry This or That and Happy New Year. Otherwise, my greeting is specific.

So, I’m sorry that I can’t wish you Happy Holidays. You’ll have to settle for Happy Hanukkah. 🙂

What are your Hanukkah traditions? (If you don’t mind sharing.)

Good grief, we’ll have to worry about not offending them now? lol

Their bus ad read something like, “Why believe in God? Just be good for goodness sake.”

Have any of you heard of this? (It’s humanist creation.)
 
I’m sure more christians are offended at store owners saying happy holidays than jews are offended at people saying merry christmas.

We light candles and then call Sean Hannity and complain about nativity scenes on public property 🙂

We give the kids gifts on the first night and have a family party one night. This year it falls on Christmas. Personally, I do a little studying about the holiday (i.e., why do we light the chanukah/menorah in front of a window?)

I have sevreral Jewish friends & lots of Jewish customers. They have been wishing me Merry Christmas for 2 weeks now. I have responded with both Christmas & Hannakah (forgive spelling) wishes. No one has been offended.
 
To the best of my knowledge Jews living in Christian countries where they are a small religious minority making up one or two per cent of the population are no doubt used to be wished merry Christmas and I doubt whether any of them are truly offended.

In Israel both Moslem and Christian lawyers appearing before me wish me holiday greetings for Jewish holidays as I wish them holiday greetings for their religious holidays. Needless to say I take into consideration their religious holidays in setting cases in which they appear.

Would a Christian be offended if a Jew wished everyone he met Happy Chanukah even though he knew that the recipient of the greeting was not Jewish?

How does a stranger know you are a christian, how do they *witness *your joy if you simply say Happy Holidays?

This is just my take on it, to each his own perception of political correctness. I am not saying anyone in this thread is incorrect. What may be right for one may be wrong for another. :twocents:

I think some would. I can think of a few rabid Christian types who might have hearth failure. of course those are the same people who don’t celebrate Halloween or Christmas because they
are “pagan” traditions.

I wouldn’t be offended, and I think most people wouldn’t.
 
From talk radio, which spends a few hours each season bellyaching about store owners who say happy holidays.

I wouldn’t be offended. i’d say, well, I don’t plan on celebrating the occasion, but the same to you. After all, Hannukah isn’t wrong. It’s a celebration of the Lord’s provision in time of need.🤷
