Hello, Jewish brethern 🙂

I was wondering if you could enlighten me about - or direct me to a book about - or a website or two about - the oral and rabbinic traditions of Judaism? What did they contain and what were they about? I am a curious Catholic, but I am patient too. Thank you in advance for your answers!

Judaism basic: It’s not a good idea to post questions to Jews late Friday or early Saturday! 🙂

Perhaps you could start at Judaism 101 and (more depth) torah.org.

Hi Sam, I’m afraid I tend to define myself as a ‘poster who happens to be Jewish’ rather than a ‘Jewish poster’. Years ago, on various boards/message lists, I did the ‘being the forum resource on Judaism’ thing and I guess I just got tired.

why you got tired!, Judaism is the source, :heart:Jesus:heart: was Jew, Mary was Jew.
Actually I was neutral on the Jews before I know Jesus, I didn’t like you nor I hated you, but after I knew Jesus, I tend to love you now like my fellow Christians, and I like to know much about your religion since its the source.

If you have the time and patience to tackle a 700+ page book, I would reccomend “Heavenly Torah” originally written by A.J. Heschel and translated by Gordon Tucker. In addition to his translation, Rabbi Tucker posts his own excellent footnotes. The book gives a very thorough overview of how the rabbis were part of a pluralistic system of judaism, by following two major schools and how they approach the Torah and other scriptures.

If nothing else, you will be exposed to the incredible diversity that exists (existed?) within the orthodox communities alone.
