Jews came to Mary

Today’s Gospel mentioned about our Blessed Virgin Mary.
Jn 11:45-56
Many of the Jews who had come to Mary
and seen what Jesus had done began to believe in him.

What Jesus had done help the Jews believe in Him, but what Virgin Mary had done for the Jews?

When I first read this line today, I immediately thought of her intercession. Why St. John mentioned about Mary in this sentence?

The passage follows the one where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, so the Mary in this passage would be the sister of Martha and Lazarus, not Jesus’ mother. The Jews who had come to Mary were probably there in support of her, as she had just buried her brother. They saw what Jesus did (bringing Lazarus back from the dead), and they began to believe in Him.

ahh! Thanks for explaining. I didn’t use the Bible when reading today’s Gospel; thus, I missed out the previous passage.

No problem. When I looked it up, I used the Douay-Rheims (1899 American version, online), which states, “45Many therefore of the Jews, who were come to Mary and Martha, and had seen the things that Jesus did, believed in him”, which makes it a little clearer. That version seems to be in the minority, though, as most of the other translations simply say those who came to Mary. So without seeing the surrounding text, I can see how it might be easy to make the assumption that it refers the Blessed Mother.
