I hope that this is not a re-hashing of an old topic, but there is something about which I am curious.

My Sunni friends have told me that Shiites believe that Jibreel made a mistake in bringing the Revelation to Muhammad, and that is was supposed to go to Ali. Is this the case, and, if so, how is it reconciled with the fact that an omnipotent God would have to know whom Jibreel would find on arrival?

Thanks.

The shiites are the minority in islam, and they are divided into many sects, and they have many differences amongst each other.
Code:
The shiites are a good example of what happens to people when they love the man or messenger more than they love God who sent the messenger. Ali, may God bless him, is the cousin of prophet Muhammad (pbuh), he was among the first people to convert to Islam. Now the shiites loved Ali so much that they got blinded from the truth, and that he was just a regular man. At the beginning they claimed that he should've been the first Caliphat (rule muslims) after the death of the Prophet pbuh and not Abu Bakr. Later after Ali's death, they claimed that the message should've been revealed to Ali instead of Muhammad, they said that Angel Gabriel (Holy Spirit) was mistaken onto whom he should've given the message. Recently I discovered that many shiites believe that Ali is somehow related to God, and instead of asking God for forgiveness, health, etc,..... they ask Ali in their prayer.

So the bottom line, the shiiaa deviated far from Islam and it's teachings, and some shiiaa groups like the Ismaili's for example are not even considered muslims.

The Ismailis are not considered Muslims by whom? Presumably not themselves…

I thought that, if someone uttered the Shahada, other Muslims had to accept that s/he was one of them. Is that not right?

They are not considered Muslims by Sunnis and even other sects of Shi'a. Actually i got this info about the Ismaili's from my Shi'a friends.

As for your second question, that's true if you say the Shahada you become a muslim, and if you say the first part of the shahada only it will garantee you'll not stay in hell for eternity. Shahada is to say, "**I testify that there is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is his servant and messenger**".

Now let me tell u this, if you say the Shahada while u believe that Ali was supposed to be the messenger instead of Muhammad, or you put Ali (may God bless him) next to God in worship, does that make u a muslim?? of course not.

Its very clear for any body with knowledge about shia that they are on teh worng path. Their history is about political struggle trhat turned later on religious deviation. Their WHOLE faith evolved because they were the reason of the death of the prophets Grandson. From this day they are in continuous mourning and guilt and regret. They thought they are making up by overloving The family of the prophet untill they went out of Islam itself. The guys that believe that Ali was the man whom Gibreel was to deliver the Quran are called Alawi shia and not ismaeli but any way BOTH are even considered by Shia themselves to be Non muslim!!! Islam has a very very strict definition of who is muslim. I dont even care if it turns out that muslims are just a bunch fo thousands people in teh world . I liek what brother Edris said in his first response because it is the very thing that started teh whoel shia sect. loving the messenger more than the sender of the message itself. Its the same thing that happened with christians from muslim point of view.

Peace

assalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah bro.

actually, the ismailis also believe that jibreel ('alaihis-salaam) was supposed to deliver the messengership to 'alee (radiyallahu 'anhu), as to a lot of other shee’ah - including the raafidah, wallahu a’lam. i remember one ismaili guy explaining his beliefs to one of the sufis that used to hang out at the MSA i used to frequent while in college and this is one of the things he mentioned (i.e., jibreel betraying the trust bestowed upon him by Allah).

if you ever watch a shee’ee praying, watch if they slap their hands on their thighs at the end of the tashahhud. what they’re saying there, wallahu a’lam, is “he betrayed the trust. he betrayed the trust” referring to jibreel ('alaihis-salaam).
