Rumor has it that Jim Caviezel (JC) is the top choice of Warner Bros. (WB) to play the role of Superman in an upcoming film “Superman”. Mark Millar, the guy who predicted Bryan Singer would leave the “X-Men” film project of 20th Century Fox to direct this “Superman” film two weeks before WB officially announced it, is willing to write a thousand-dollar cheque to charity if JC would not be the one for the role. Read it here:

I don’t know about you, but JC is simply…perfect. Looks, build, height, acting–you name it–he’s got it there.

Any thoughts, people?

Shalom, amen.

JC has the “it” factor for sure. I loved him in “Count of Monte Cristo”… not to mention POTC.
I’m just not sure if I want to see him in the blue tights.
Especially after playing Jesus.

Jim is an actor. He can portray Jesus in one film and Superman in another without any problem. The only thing I don’t want him to play are roles that directly contradict the role he played in the Passion of the Christ, for instance, films that promote immorality or Occultism. This is just my opinion however.

Frankly, I would not like to see Caviezel go from “Jesus” to “Superman.”

I read some discussion of the topic in other forums. There seems to be the notion that Warner Bros. is capitalizing on the popularity of JC in portraying our Lord in “The Passion of the Christ”. Hmmm, could be?

But yes, it would rather affect my view of him as a devout Catholic film actor if he portrayed in roles the Church would frown on–even if he played Superman.

Let’s keep reminding ourselves that Jim Caviezel is an actor. A very fine actor, to be sure. For the younger group, research the many and varied roles H.B. Warner appeared in after he portrayed Jesus in the 1927 version of King of Kings. In the instance of Superman, isn’t “The Man of Steel” a christ-like image? Not from this earth. Powers far beyond those of mortal men. A life spent in saving poor mankind. Can’t really see a conflict here. Maybe they’ll remake “It’s A wonderful Life” some day and Jim Caviezel can portray Mr. Gower which will shock viewers as much as H.B. Warner’s portrayal did in the original version.

As some have already said, the man is an actor & that’s how he makes his living, so of course he’s going to take all sorts of roles. There’s nothing wrong with that. It is possible to be an actor or any kind of performing artist for that matter and still be a good devout Catholic. I’ve seen a few of his interviews and he seems very sincere in his beliefs & committed to carrying out his profession in a good way. Having said that, the role of our Lord is a tough act to follow…
