Job...calling in sick...what to do?

I’ve had food poisoning for the last couple days…I went into work yesterday and suffered through it…I told them I’d probably call in sick today…sure enough I did (giving them a days warning) and they told me I had to come in and if I didn’t they’d write me up…I’ll probably go in cause I can’t lose this job (plus I just got a promotion)…but Ive been throwing up all morning…

But what would you do in this situation? Is this legal? I’m kinda at a loss…

If you’re that sick, go to your doctor. Get a note telling your employer when they can expect you back on the job…

Do what a friend of mine did: puke in the trash can and drop it off in the bosses office. It got him all the time off he needed, plus his boss backed off next time he told him he was sick.
 
In the second grade I told Sr. Brigid I was going to be sick. She told me I was lying, so I vomited on her shoes. She never questioned me about being sick again after that.

Hi Sarc,

Did you see your Doctor and did they confirm it was food poisoning and what type was it; if you work in a food establishment then your boss is breaking the law (U.K at least) by insisting you come in to work whilst suffering from the effects of food poisoning, also it could be argued that there is a high chance of you passing on the food poisoning bacteria to your work colleagues by cross contamination.

My advise would be to see the Doctor if you have not done so and get a letter from him/her and give to your boss.

If you suspect food poisoning in the future then practise good personnal hygiene and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
 
My one experience with food poisioning (not fun) - it ran it’s course in about 12 hours. If it has been going on longer than that - get to the doctor!

Getting sick in the mornings - no chance it could be something entirely different is there 🙂
 
I’ve actually had this problem at my job before. It’s not legal for them to make you come in if you’re sick. They can howver ask for proof with a doctors note. (this is how it is in NY anyway) So I know it’ll suck to have to drag yourself to the doctor’s office but it’s probably best if you do. Then they really can’t say anything. They can’t fire you or get you in trouble for being sick, I’m pretty sure.

I own my own business and someone demanding you to come into work or you will loose your job is horrible. I know that IF I ever demanded someone come in and they puked on me…I would learn my lesson.

So puke on the boss, or go to the doctor…

Well…as one person suggested…I don’t think it’s “mornign sickness” cause it lasted all night. If it was though…I’d be happy but my husband came down with the same thing I did at the same time…his didnt last as long though (we suspect because I ate more than he did but still don’t know).

So I went into work last night…puked nearly on the cash keyboard in front of my boss and was sent home early…still had to stay another hour and a half. Felt really gross this mornign again…called in sick and voila!!! day off!!! So thanks for the advice although it was completely unintentional that I threw up then and there!!!

I’m pretty sure this was food poisoning cause I’m not throwing up anymore but I have the massive headache/pain in stomach that comes after throwing up for nearly 24 hours straight…ewww…

Hahaha, well, I’m glad you got off. If I told my mom I was sick, her response was something to the effect of “you can’t even imagine how sick some of the children I see every day are. Get in the car.” But then again, I haven’t thrown up since the second grade, so it’s kind of a non-issue.
