FYI–Someone PM’d me and suggested I give an update on my job situation because some people might still be praying for me. I wouldn’t think anyone would have that kind of memory–after all, I’m only up to a few hundred posts so far–but he/she had a point.

Quick update for those of you who may not remember: The job situation became intolerable and I turned in my resignation. That night my dad talked some sense into me, and so I withdrew the resignation and I’m still here at what would seem from the outside to be a pretty flashy gig.

However, the situation is still intolerable and I’m currently looking to use my skills and experience in the only two areas that have kept my attention for 20 years: Writing and Catholicism. (Possibly public affairs).

For those of you who prayed, thank you very much. Only the Holy Spirit could have kept me going through all this. But I’m afraid even the Holy Spirit can’t ward off the evil effects of government bureaucracy forever…

Ask the saints for help. St. Thomas More, St. Joan of Arc, St. Michael the Archangel…do you pray the rosary often?

my Mother my Confidence,
Corinne

Wow, that was quick…

I’ll keep it in mind, but I’m going through my bi-monthly spiritual meltdown right now. I know that praying the rosary, Confession, Mass all that are the only things that’ll bring me out, but at the same time they’re revolting. A series of odd and unmistakabley spiritual occurences by 8:30 this morning have kind of shaken me to take action, though.

Do you have a spiritual director? During my year in college, I asked a priest whose penances really impressed me when I confessed to him to spiritually advise me. He’s the prior of an abbey but he still made time for me. Hopefully a priest in your area could do that for you. Remember that it’s the priest’s job to do much more than absolve people in the Sacrament of Reconciliation - they are there to lead people to God and help people lead holier lives. My spiritual director reminded me to trust in God and now DH and I have a “Jesus, I trust in You!” prayer card in our apartment. It seems that I look at it when I really need to remember that.

No, I don’t. I had one in college, too, but that is now a long time ago.

Lately I seem to be clergy kryptonite. I meet a priest here or there and they either start going to school, or get transfered, or simply disappear. I was about to write off any communication with any priest whatsoever when I finally heard back from one guy. He’s solid, but extremely busy. He suggested I take a job as the Religious Ed Director of a local diocese. One problem: It’d be a pay cut in the area of several tens of thousands of dollars.

I may just go for it, though. This paycheck has just allowed me to become lazy and complacent. I’d like to be HAPPILY employed for a change.

I say go for it! If you have a family to support, make sure that the income would support everyone. If you were the religious ed director, you’d definitely be working for God. That’s nobler than working for the US gov’t in my book.
