Joel 3:5

Hello, my friend and I are trying to do a bible study, and we stumbled upon joel 3:5, I use the NAB and it says "Then everyone who calls upon the name of the LORD

will escape harm.

For on Mount Zion there will be a remnant,

as the LORD has said,

And in Jerusalem survivors

whom the LORD will summon."

But most other versions that are used say something completely different. Even the NRVS Catholic Edition has a different wording that says For you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried my rich treasures into your temples.

Can anyone help me understand why the NAB seems to have a radically different version?

Take a look at Joel chapter 4 in the NAB…

It’s my understanding that the Greek version of Joel had three chapters and the Hebrew, four chapters; the NAB is following the Hebrew numbering, according to that explanation…

Exactly. For textual (or possibly ecumenical) reasons, the NAB, like most modern Bibles, uses the Hebrew numbering in which Joel 3: 5 is “all who call on the name of the LORD will be saved”. The verse you’re referring to (“you took my silver and gold”) is Joel 4: 5 in the NAB.
