Sorry to bump this but I just watched Joel for like the 10th time and I have to comment
First, your right…he is not Christ centered. He does not even mention Christ, his life, the apostles struggles, or their suffering
If he did…it would kill his message…which is an american message. It disregards the millions of Christians who can not get a promotion, or better car…they are too busy trying to stay alive
I do believe this decent man, and talented speaker will eventually see that things will never be rosey for many christians. He does teach kindness, prasing God in everything we do, and living a godly life. His flock does read the bible and the word of God will set anyone free who reads it with an open heart. Its the Holy spirit that converts–not Joel, not the Catholic church, not you.
Now, since the majority here saught to condemn him. I will point out how uttery pompus some of you are
Canceling Christmas service??? What?..does that save you? Does attending a service save you? Does God say if you do not show up on Christmas you will burn? Does Christ not say there will be a time that my followers will not have to worship in the temple? Does he not say–go in the secret room and talk to your Father and that those who pray before men already have their reward?
Do you actually believe that your worship is somehow making God happier if it is in a specific place? Worship is helping the poor and giving to your neighbor. What are you achieving? Paul specifically taught that we have no right to require observance of days.
Did not Jesus himself expose the absurity of the Pharisees when they questioned him about the Sabbath? Condemning how one worships is a tool of the selfrighteous. Why? Because people cant control their sinful thoughts–so they think if they observe a day they can attone for that sin. Well they cant. It earns you nothing. Christ thought better of helping an animal out of a ditch or feeding hungry friends. Whitewashed tombs
Is worship reciting ready made prayers? Call and response with the preist? Come on people, your just as blind as Joels followers. Oh, Im in the one and only apostolic church. Do you really think that a means anything the almighty God? Draped in a thousand rituals that Paul and Christ himself deemed as slavery and miserable principles
This is exactly what causes a person to condem someone who tells his flock to spend Christmas with their families. Its Christ + your rules. Sorry–nailed to the cross is religion.
This type of pompus, exclusive attitude is exactly what Christ and the Apostles kept warning about. Eventually Jesus Christ becomes secondary to your religion. Just as the Jews, you cant accept the simplicity of Jesus, so you have have to ADD rituals and rules to follow so you can feel you somehow earn your salvation. Dont taste, dont touch, attend this, attend that. We are not under the law people. The jews wanted to continue in bondage because they could not comprehend the grace of God.
Adoption as Sons are we. Why seek to enslave people all over again? I know you mean well. But you want to impose rules out of fear. You fear for your soul because you cant except your saved.
