I was reading this last night and I was confused on who the “other sheep” were? Sorry if this is a repeat.

“I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, onr shepard” John 10:16

I know the latter part of the verse talks of the one flock, meaning the Catholic Church, but who are those other sheep?"

BloodandFire,

I hate not to be constructive, but I really don’t have an answer for you. I’m responding because it is possible that the “one flock” could also mean …
… the Jewish people (then the other sheep are the Gentiles)
… the human race (then the other sheep are aliens)
… and I am sure there are other possibilities.

who is as confused as you are about this verse, possibly more so

I go with the Jewish interpretation. Looking in commentaries that also seems to be the opinion of pretty much everyone about the verse.

I am a sheep not of that fold since I am not a Jew. But I am also among those gathered into one body, one faith, one church, under one good shepherd, grafted into the one vine (to mix a metaphor!)

Since the death, burial, resurrection & ascension of Christ, and in Christ, there is no longer Jew and Gentile but one flock belonging to God.

Verses 15 & 17 are superb aren’t they? How Jesus willingly gave his life for the sheep. How his life wasn’t just stolen from him but given through his consent and his love for us.

When I first read this I immediately thought of the Gentiles but a modern day interpretation could mean all denominations of christianity.

Ordinarily I would say that these “other sheep” are non-Catholics covered by the “invincible ignorance” umbrella.

However, John 11:52 seems to refer to non-Jews, the Gentiles! Because the same gospel writer seems to be elaborating on the same theme, I suspect that the “other sheep” are US, the Gentiles in The Church.

That makes alot more sense now. Thank you.

God Bless,
