"As the father has sent me, so I send you." then he breathed on them and said: "Received the Holy Spirit. If you forgive men’s sins, they are forgiven them; If you hold them bound, they are held bound."

Jesus said: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

Hmm Jesus sent the Apostles out, where to, some might say.

Through The Gace Of GOD to me its obvious that our Lord sent the apostles out into the world to preach the good news of forgivness of sins that leads to Salvation In Our Lord.

In order to save a person, one must hear the Good News and Accept the Good News and believe in Jesus Christ in order to be saved.

However, Satan, believes in Jesus Christ all the Devils believe in Jesus Christ, they know who he is and they are not saved.

My point is, Once a person believes in Jesus Christ as his or her Savior is that enough?.. Well they have to have remorse of the sins they have committed against our Lord. They Need someone that they can go to and confess thier sins, but to whom?

Our Lord Meant the Apostle? Lets see.

John 20: 22 Then he breathed on them and said: "Recieve the Holy Spirit. If you forgive mens sins they are forgiven them;
if you hold them bound, they are held bound."

However the Apostles are not here in this earth anymore they are in Heaven.

Did the forgiveness of sins end with the Last Apostle, Are We Lost are we damned, becasue there is no Apostle Left on earth to forgive us our sins?

The answer to that is We Are Not Lost Jesus Knew that his Apostles would eventually die but his Grace would carry on through their successors the Roman Catholic Church. The Mission of forgiving of sins still continues today In the Catholic Church.

No Protestant Church can say that they have Recieved the gift of the Holy Spirit to forgive sins. They say you can go striaght to JESUS to forgive them their sins and that is GOOD!

However Our LORD Jesus Christ HAD SOMETHING ELSE IN MIND He wants us to go to his Church, the Catholic Church to have OUR sins forgiven.

Just Like We go to a Catholic Priest or a Protestant Minister to be babtized. We should go to a Catholic Priest to Have our sins washed away in the Name of Jesus Christ.

This Goes To show everyone not matter he or she be Catholic, Protestant, Jew, if you have a human heart beat, that mean YOU!must go and recieve forgivness of thier sins from the Catholic Church.

Open your Heart, Minds, put your Pride behind and believe in JOHN 20: 19-23

If you would have stopped here you would sound like a church of Christ[er]. Intersting. Realy, your base argument would have been better had you used the term CHURCH instead of Roman Catholic Church. The Church is “Catholic”. There are many rites within the Catholic Church, but they are in communion with the Bishop of Rome, which we lovingly call Pa Pa…Pope Benedict XVI

How So does it not sound that i am not talking abaout the Catholic Church?

Yes there are many Rites, but it seem you did not get the point about John20: 19-23 about forgivness of sin.

So what do you want to know about the sacrament of reconciliation?

So what do you want to know about the sacrament of reconciliation?
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the 7 Sacraments where one goes and have the sins forgiven by a Catholic Priest. plain and simple. John 20: 19-23

Hi

I gather from the Chapter 20 that Jesus told in so may words to his people that he made good his escape from the cursed death on Cross and told them that he had not died and very much alive. This was somedays before Jesus went to exile to India after the incident of Crucifixion.

The other day some poster on another thread that only the aggrieved person could forgive the wrong done to him by somebody. That seem logical and reasonable. Otherwise only GodAllahYHWH could forgive the sins directly.

Thanks

Hi

I think it is wrongly attributed to Jesus. Jesus himself could not forgive the sins; so how could he delegate an authority which was not with him to start with. Only GodAllahYHWH could forgive the sins of the sinners, after due repentence and resolve not to commit a sin in future.
Others are free to differe wit me with good reasons.

Thanks

Interesting…the Jews were shocked at this very idea themselves!
Mark 2:1-13
When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them. They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.
Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him. After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Child, your sins are forgiven."
Now some of the scribes were sitting there asking themselves, "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming. Who but God alone can forgive sins?"
Jesus immediately knew in his mind what they were thinking to themselves, so he said, "Why are you thinking such things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’?
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth"-- he said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise, pick up your mat, and go home.”
He rose, picked up his mat at once, and went away in the sight of everyone. They were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”
Jesus knew that people would not believe that he was of God - yet He still forgave the man’s sins. Reading this in context of John 20, you would see why this makes sense that Christ had the authority not only to forgive sins, but to pass on that authority to the Apostles, who could do the same.

Dear Paar,

You come out with a new idea of yours. Where do you exactly find your story of Jesus from John 20? By the way, in Mat 9:2, Jesus forgive sins. Haven’t you read that?

17 Jesus saith to her: Do not touch me, for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren, and say to them: I ascend to my Father and to your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalen cometh, and telleth the disciples: I have seen the Lord, and these things he said to me. 19 Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you. 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord
Hi

Jesus’ wounds were still there and hurting. It is for that that he forbade Mary Magdalen to touch him, it might hurt him. This aslo shows that still he was in the same physical body and was not a spirit or with a glorious body. A glorious body does not have hands with nailed down scars or side with scars. Jesus wants them to make them believe that he had not died for a single moment from the beginning of the incident to the time he showd himself up. He was still fearing the Jews; that is the reason why he was in the guise of a gardener and did not want to show up to the Jews publicly.

swarffin! It is very clear.

Matthew | Chapter 9
1 And entering into a boat, he passed over the water and came into his own city. 2 And behold they brought to him one sick of the palsy lying in a bed. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the man sick of the palsy: Be of good heart, son, thy sins are forgiven thee. 3 And behold some of the scribes said within themselves: He blasphemeth. 4 And Jesus seeing their thoughts, said: Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee: or to say, Arise, and walk?
6 But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then said he to the man sick of palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house. 7 And he arose, and went into his house. 8 And the multitude seeing it, feared, and glorified God that gave such power to men. 9 And when Jesus passed on from hence, he saw a man sitting in the custom house, named Matthew; and he saith to him: Follow me. And he rose up and followed him. 10 And it came to pass as he was sitting at meat in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came, and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.
11 And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples: Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners? 12 But Jesus hearing it, said: They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill. 13 Go then and learn what this meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I am not come to call the just, but sinners. 14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying: Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but thy disciples do not fast? 15 And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast.
Hi

This is a story from a scribe, I think.

The sick man sick of palsy has only a disease. What a disease has to do with the sins; nothing. Jesus prays for him or gives the medicines to him and the sick man gets cured, I think, the scribe is make a drama out of it unnecessarily.

How the scribe knows that those person who ate with Jesus were sinners? It is only a guess of the scribe. They might have been some criminal history but when they sat in the company of Jesus and imporved themselves with his teachings they were reformed; and that should happen naturally as Jesus was Messenger of GodAllahYHWH.

swariffin! It is very easy to understand if one is not superstitious.

Dear Paar,

You have not explain me logically, how can a man with an open wound so large that a hand could be in, can still live (John 20:27).
In John 20:20, Luke 24:36-43, Jesus as a living person met the deciples and showed the wound. As per your criteria, it is clear that Jesus was not appear as spirit or in glorious body, since the wound was there.

Jesus said himself that He has the power to forgive sins in Mat 9:6. Regardless of whether of not the crippled man has sin or not, the wording of Jesus is clear. “The Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth”. The Jew in Mat 9:3 including you (I am not saying that you are a Jew) say that only God has the power to forgive sins.

It is clear to me Paar, that Jesus has risen from death as no one (especially from the 1st century medication technology) can ever live with that kind of large opened wound. It is clear to me too, that Jesus has the power to forgive sins. As only GodYHWH has the power to forgive sins, then It is clear that Jesus is God, though not the same being as GodYHWH.

Yes he was in a physical body but the wounds remain as a testament to his victory over death on the cross and as a testament to his sacrifice for our sins.

Rev 5:6-10
6 And I saw: and behold in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the ancients, a Lamb standing as it were slain (Jesus Christ), having seven horns and seven eyes: which are the seven Spirits of God, sent forth into all the earth…And when he had opened the book, the four living creatures, and the four and twenty ancients fell down before the Lamb (They worshipped Him), having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints:
9 And they sung a new canticle, saying: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the book, and to open the seals thereof; because thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God, in thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation.****(He was killed on the cross, was resurrected and redeemed humanity) *
10* And hast made us to our God a kingdom and priests, and we shall reign on the earth.
Further more from other threads I got the impression that you like most Muslims believed that it God only mad it appear like Jesus was crucified.

So do you believe that he was crucified but survived the trauma of the flogging with all the loss of blood, as well as the spear wound to his heart? And that it only took him 3 days to recuperate from such wounds to stand before the Apostles to whom the testamony of a glorified body arises?
