John 3:16 license plate dispute

I believe this happened in Washington. My mom told me that she heard that a woman was all mad because she saw a license plate that said “John 3:16”. She said that people shouldn’t be able to “preach” with their license plates. I guess the thing even had to go to court, too. That woman obviously forgot that people decorate their cars with bumper stickers too that say a lot of things worse than the name of a bible verse.

Anyone else hear about this?
