Thank you for tagging me, Tis, but this question is way above my pay grade. I leave it to our real kosher Greek specialists, such as @Bithynian and @OddBird.

The ‘believed’ word in Greek is πεπιστευκόταις pepisteukotais. It’s a perfect participle that describes an action that was completed in the past that still has a continuing or permanent effect in the present. Translated in a very roundabout way: ‘Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him in the past and now continue to believe in him in the present’.
