Anyone read any of his books? My best friend recommended I read “Skipping Christmas” which goes with the movie “Christmas with the Kranks.” I thought it was a great book. I love his detail and his way of describing situations. So I was hooked to his writing style. She also gave me “The Testament” which is pretty long, i’ve gotten half way thru it, but some parts i’m just not so crazy about, starts getting boring after awhile…so i picked up two more of his novels at the library…“The Chamber” and “Bleachers” For some good holiday reading.

After all that…sorry…anyone like John Grisham?

I used to read his books, and I always enjoyed them 🙂 I don’t think I’ve read one for a while though, must be busy just reading other things!

I’ve read most of his books. My favorite is his 1st book, *A Time To Kill. * The movie that was made from it was awful but the book was a real page turner.

I’ve read a few of his books. They didn’t really hold my interest. I find his writing rather simplistic, compared to, say, Tom Clancy in his better years.

I thought the movie was great, the book too.

Wasn’t this the movie with Matthew McConaughey as the lawyer… it took place somewhere in the South and he was SWEATY through the entire movie… I kept thing… gosh, you are a lawyer… can’t you afford central A/C?

My favorite Grisham book is A Painted House. Loved it. Although the main character is supposed to be a young boy (age 7 I believe) and I think his character seemed MUCH older… made me wonder if Mr. Grisham actually had children?

LOL! :rotfl: Yep. That was the one.

The only one of his books I have read is The Firm. Did not particularly care for it.

Haven’t had time to read anything recently, but I loved The Firm and The Pelican Brief!

A read A Time to Kill in high school, and wouldn’t mind reading it again. Bleachers was also very good.

Haven’t read any others of his though.

I’ve read The Firm. Was anyone bothered by the fact that he described sexual scenes very vividly? I thought the irony and surprises were cool though. I was just wondering what people thought about the whole sexual thing.

Sorry, but I have read all of his books about lawyers. And I liked most if not all of them. But I see that they are not popular on this site.

Now, I don’t like all of the movies made from his books. But most of them have major changes in them. The ending is different or something.

*The Firm * was Grisham’s first successful book – I think he wrote it (and its steamy sex scenes) simply to make money. I remember reading somewhere that his personal favorite is his first book, A Time To Kill, which didn’t get any notoriety until after *The Firm * was published.

I’ve read most of his legal books and have enjoyed them, but A Time To Kill is his most “real” book. It’s obvious that he was a lawyer before he began his writing career – he gets the details right.

smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_13_3.gif I get so dissapointed when an author that turns out a few good novels at first and then future books will have ignorant, detailed descriptions of sexual encounters that are so obviously not relevant to the story. I feel its an insult to the reader’s ability to appreciate a good yarn and the author has to smut it up to sell! It turns me off and, sorry - but Tom Clancy had to bite the dust as one of my favorites. Grisham has risen to the same category.

Last one I read was Skipping Christmas , but he’s gotten quite repetitive. He’s gotten quite repetitive. Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😃
