I have the misfortune to listen to a CD of Mr. Martignoni’s…to say that I was shocked and offended would be an understatement…I sincerely pray that God gives him the grace to understand the tolerance and love of Christ for all sinners, including our friend Mr. Martignoni…

Yes yes yes! You can also download the mp3s from his site just incase you don’t want the cd. Sign up for his newsletter as well.

What is that supposed to mean? John Martignoni is the greatest Catholic apologist I have ever heard. And I’ve heard the best of them, John Salza, Patrick Madrid, Michael Voris, Tim Staples, Michael Cumbie just to name a few. All great apologists, but Mr. Martignoni (as you put it) is clearly the best. It’s getting late and I need to go to sleep, but tomorrow I’m going to order as much of is material I can afford. I seriously doubt you’re really Catholic. If you are it’s in name only. Tell us, tell us all, why were you shocked and offended?

I agree 100%. I heard his Rapture and Bible cd and he unraveled that protestant mess so well that I’m ordering every cd I can. He IS great.

This is an interesting statement. John is very candid and keeps it simple. From this statement I would understand that he may have been harsh on a type of sin. However, we have been too tolerant of sin in the Church and look at the sad state we are in now. I believe John has good tact but will not soft peddle Church teachings.

God Bless,

I too would highly recomend his apologetics series, very informative and easy to understand. I would also recommend Gus Lloyds apologetics CD’s, he’s the morning host on the Catholic Channel on sirius/XM sattelite radio.

Supercatholic, you doubt I am really Catholic? Based on what? I do not remember reading in the Catechism that I had to agree with John Martignoni to be Catholic. By that same token, you do not have to agree with me either. However, I would point out that I am not asking you to. To answer your question. On the CD in question Mr Martignoni went on to a considerable length speaking in what I felt was a very disparaging manner about homosexuals. We all know that homosexual acts are sin. So is all sexual sin. We all are sinners and some of us are more lost that others. I believe that God calls us all to work to bring our lost brothers and sister back to righteous. Pusing them away with bigotry will not accomplish this. We must learn to love all sinners. At the same time we must hate all sin, including the sin of intolerance.

You can’t put homosexual acts of sin in the same category as other sexual sins. Not all sin is equal in God’s eyes. But your statement of “disparaging manner about homosexuals” can only be disparaging if you’re at the wrong end (oops! I did say wrong end) of it. I mean if you hold an opposing viewpoint. And since you seem to hold an opposing viewpoint it is obvious that your preferential behavior takes priority over Church teaching. There is no such thing as the “sin of intolerance”. Am I supposed to tolerate the drunk driver that kills people. Because one of them killed my son. Am I supposed to tolerate the pedophile because they can’t seem help what they are. Am I supposed to tolerate the act of abortion. Am I supposed to tolerate same sex marriage just so someone’s feelings won’t get hurt. You’re disagreemet of Mr. Martignoni most assuredly shows you are catholic in name only. And trust me his so-called disparaging talk about homosexuality is far more charitable than I would ever be.

People should see this twice

Unfortunantly, I do not think that posting something twice will make it true, but nice try…You seem to want to muddle crime and sin together, but to remain on sin.
The Catholic Church teaches us about the Capital sins.Lust being one of them, it covers both hetrosexual and homosexual sexual sins, there is not a separate Capital sin for gays. Pride is also one of the Capital sin…which includes a person attracted to the opposite gender thinking that they are somehow superior to a person attracted to their same gender. However, the Catechism does correctly state that homosexual acts are unnatural, while only listing hetrosexual sexual sins as disordered. From my past experience as a hardened sinner, I can attest to that hetrosexual sexual sins can get rather unnatural. In our Act of Contrition we are reminded that sin is simply choosing to do wrong and failing to do good. Same category.
I do however understand how difficult it is to separate the sin from the sinner, but if we are going to more than Catholics in name only I think it is important to remember that Jesus in his own words taught us to love and forgive, even our enemies.

How do you know what his preference is? Other than the fact that homosexual relations are between the same gender, what makes them, as you imply, morally more grave than other sexual sins, say adultery or promiscuity? I am sorry you lost a child due to a drunk driver-as a lawyer I often defend people accused of drunk driving but I do not underestimate the tragedies they cause; for that reason I am not going to rake you over the coals.

My problem with Mr. Martignoni goes back to the 2008 election and it is a common one with “Neo-Catholics” namely: abortion trumps all other moral issues–I am not willing to give the Republican war mongers a pass because they mouth meaningless anti-abortion bromides. Personally, I do not believe any Catholic should be a Republican or a Democrat but Independent. We need to thank Mr. Obama-now we have a pro abortion war monger in the White House.

Five Angels,

I’m not going to touch most of your political diatribe as it will take this thread off topic. But just speaking to the life issue and whether it ought to be a fair litmus test for committed Catholics in the voting booth. Since the Catholic church has always condemned abortion as a grave evil, I personally refuse to vote for any pro-choice politician, as I would consider my support a cooperation with evil. It is my understanding that the Catholic church has not gone so far as to officially define voting for a pro-choice politician as objectively sinful (somebody please correct me if I’m mistaken about this), but for me my conscience simply won’t allow it. Politicians who defend innocent unborn babies are, typically, heroes for me. I’ll crawl across glass for most of them.

It’s one thing to disagree with somebody like me (or John Martignoni) on this issue. It’s another thing to call a brother’s conscientious objection a “meaningless bromide,” as if your (presumably) more relativist position is the only one with any legitimacy. That kind of disagreement, in my opinion, is unnecessarily antagonistic and demeaning.
