Eternal Rest grant unto John Prine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Father please bless John Prine. May he live strong and serve you forever in your kingdom. In your name, Jesus amen!

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee.
Blessed are Thou among women and blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Lord have mercy on him and welcome him into Your kingdom. Amen.

Prine had notions about the ways of the world that were, well, a bit idiosyncratic, often caustic, and sometimes just plain zany. But over the years there’s been a chorus from one of his songs (“Spanish Pipedreams”) that continues to remain in my head.

It goes like this: “Blow up your TV. Throw away your papers. Go to the country. Build you a home. Plant a little garden. Eat a lot of peaches. Try to find Jesus on your own.”

Now, that’s songwriting! I suspect that there’s a little wisdom in there.

May his soul be at rest.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

every time I hear his name, dear abbey plays in my head
Unhappy, unhappy
You have no complaint
You are what you are and you ain’t what you ain’t
So listen up buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
may he rest in peace

O MY JESUS, forgive us our sins, save us
from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to
Heaven, especially those in most need of
Thy mercy. Amen
