If John the Baptist was born full of the Holy spirit, was he born with out the stain of original sin? And, if so, he had no need for his being baptized. Is this correct?
Thanks, elsi
John the Baptist was conceived in the same way that you were conceived. However, when Mary came to Elizabeth he was sanctified whilst still in the womb, the same as Jeremiah was sanctified in the womb so that he was being prepared for his role as prophet.
John the Baptist was the precursor of Christ. Our form of Baptism did not apply to him.
And John the Baptist died before Jesus, so he would fall in the category of the righteous dead. “[Jesus] led captivity captive” He preached to those held captive by death, and they accepted Him. After all, He was the One they had all been waiting for by faith. See Hebrews 11.
