I’ve never been a religious person. I wasn’t raised with any faith, and for years it never bothered me.

I recently moved and a few houses down from me I saw there was a Catholic church. I want to join, I feel it’s time for me to have a faith, something to believe in and to help me through my troubles. I’m not sure if this is the right reason to become part of a religion, but to me it feels like I have to join.

So my question is this; how? How do I join a church? Do I just walk in one Sunday? When do I read the Bible, what version of bible should I be getting? I’m really unsure, and I feel I need to become Catholic, I just don’t know how

Hi and welcome to CAF.
The best thing to do is set up a meeting with the local pastor and ask these questions. You should be able to walk into the office and make an appointment. Assuming they have an RCIA program he will direct you to the person coordinating that program and you will be set for normal entry and they will direct you step by step. In the mean time you are certainly welcome to attend Mass as visitor, read the bible, learn more here on CAF.

Peace!!!

While I certainly commend you for looking for and actively seeking the truth, the Catholic Church is not just another church where you sign up for and walk in. Catholicism is a radical life choice you must make for the rest of your life.

You have to discern the reasons why you are considering the Catholic faith. Catholicism is not simply something to help you through your troubles. Begin to read good books on the lives of the saints, about the Eucharist, Mary, the trinity, and other core Catholic beliefs from reputable Catholic sources.

My advice to you would be to meet with the local priest of the parish and express your interest in enrolling in Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). You can attend Mass as you’d like; however, you would be unable to receive the Eucharist.

When you read the Bible, make sure there is 73 and not 66 books, too 😉

You will be in my prayers.
