8 And I, John, who have heard and seen these things. And after I had heard and seen,** I fell down to adore before the feet of the angel,** who shewed me these things. 9 And he said to me: See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them that keep the words of the prophecy of this book. Adore God. Rev 22:8-9
11 And they ate on the next day unleavened bread of the corn of the land, and frumenty of the same year. 12 And the manna ceased after they ate of the corn of the land, neither did the children of Israel use that food any more, but they ate of the corn of the present year of the land of Chanaan. 13 And when Josue was in the field of the city of Jericho, he lifted up his eyes, and saw a man standing over against him: holding a drawn sword, and he went to him, and said: Art thou one of ours, or of our adversaries? 14 And he answered: No: but I am prince of the host of the Lord, and now I am come. 15 Josue fell on his face to the ground. And worshipping, add: What saith my lord to his servant?
16 Loose, saith he, thy shoes from off thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Josue did as was commanded him. Joshua 5
I have heard catholics argue that there are different levels of worship. One level for God alone and another for Mary etc…they also pray to Mary i.e. rosary, kneel down to statues to Mary etc.
In light of this:
  1. Why did the angel in Revelations rebuke John for worshiping him, if it is ok to worship beings other than God just not as God? John only fell down to his feet, he didn’t say anything.
  2. The Haydock Bible says that the angel that Joshua worshiped was most likely Archangel Michael. However, a protestant told me that many also think that it is pre-incarnation Christ. How could it be any other than pre-incarnation Christ in light of the above verse from revelations?

I have also heard that Joshua’s " angel" was a pre-incarnation of Christ. Is Christ ( in scripture) refered to as the " Prince of hosts" any place else? I do know that in the Jehova’s Witness version of the Bible, the part of Joshua worshipping is omitted.

Obviously John gave the level of veneration (Latria) due to God alone, which was unacceptable while Joshua gave a level of veneration (Dulia) that was allowed for Saints and angels, which is different than the other veneration.

?
He wasn’t simply kneeling down to the angel, John was also worshipping the angel as the verses that you quote say.

Worship is an old word and in our culture today it has different conotations then it once did. THe reason that some culture call their judges, “Your worship.” Is not because they are worshipping the judges but out of respect.

If you are using worship as it is defined in most modern thinking, then only God should be worshipped. If you are using more ancient forms of worship then you do have to understand the older definitions of this word and that is what Catholics mean when they discuss the different forms of worship.

This is confusing to me as well but it might be my lack of theological knowledge that is at fault.😊

There’s also the request for shoe removal, secondary to “this being Holy ground”. The only other time I recall an exchange like this is when Moses stood befor the burning bush. That was God then, there in the bush, and it was His presence that made that ground Holy. I can’t think of any other angelic visitation where the ground he stood upon was deemed " Holy".
