Hi everyone,
About a month ago I had purchased JP II’s book **Love and Responsibility **and as of yet have only read about 10 pages of it. I find it hard to get past its philosophical style and really understand it.

I would really love to know if there are any online Love and Responsiblity study groups or if there are any articles or essays on the web that will better help me understand it or at least get through the book.

I am really trying hard to live fully my life as a “Single Person” and so thought this book would be a good start in helping me live out my vocation as a Single Person despite all the temptations and lies that are out there in this secular world telling single people that we should all just do what feels good to us and not think of the consequences.

Well, that’s about it… Any help would be appreciated.

God bless

(Edited to add: I call him JP II, but yes I am aware that he wrote Love and Responsibility back when he was still known as “Karol😉 )

Hello Maryam,
I am so glad that you have bought Love and Responsibility, it is one of the finest books on human sexuality that you will encounter. Yes it is true that it is heavy and difficult, but I encourage you to read it slowly and well. Each chapter, and then go back to same chapter and re read something that struck you as strong and important and write this done. If its possible for you to do this, and you have the patience, at the end you will see a magnificent retreat/catechesis on sexuality. When yu have done this do the same with Theology of the Body, and when you have completed this do the same with The Nuptial Mystery (Angelo Cardinal Scola) and then you will have such an understanding of human sexuality that you will marv el at the geneius of God.
Sorry I cant help you any better.
God Bless
Grace Angel.

Have you seen this book? I have only read the original myself but if you’re looking for a quicker read, perhaps this simplified version could help you access the teachings without getting bogged down in the difficult text. Peace.

This is probably a digression… I clicked on this thread because i thought it interesting… i found the book a bit “heavy” too so am looking forward to the responses on this thread… the reason I am responding Maryam, is because I find your painting beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!

Grace Angel… Thank you for your suggestions… I will TRY to read it slowly and with patience (which I lack lol). We’ll just have to see if I can eventually move on to Theology of the Body. 😉

Thanks and God bless

**JezuUfamTobie… **wonderful “Jesus I trust in You”. 🙂 I have not seen this condensed version of L&R. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

God Bless

** Lion… **Thanks for the compliment on my painting. :o 🙂 I usually don’t like to show my artwork for fear of criticism, but thought that since the painting is of a Saint, it would give me some extra protection. 😉 Good to know that I am not alone on L&R being a bit on the “heavy” side as you stated. lol

Thanks again and God bless

I know you can do it Maryam and it is well worth the effort. I promise at the end you will have suc h a different understanding of sexuality that you will be amazed at the magnitude of God in all He does.
Keep trying and if it gets hard, get on this board again for more encouragement.
\God Bless your efforts.:angel1:

His style is unique indeed and only gets moreso in theo of body. re read and re read some more and pray it, so to speak. patience and ask for illumination…you’ll get it. You must read theology of body for beginners by chris west. easier and the same idea.

peace

Lion you have absolutely nothing to worry about regarding your paintings. Beautiful. Be proud of them as you should be.
