When Judaism demanded that all sexual activity be channeled into marriage, it changed the world. The Torah’s prohibition of non-marital sex quite simply made the creation of Western civilization possible.
Societies that did not place boundaries around sexuality were stymied in their development. The subsequent dominance of the Western world can largely be attributed to the sexual revolution initiated by Judaism and later carried forward by Christianity.
Notice to Reader: "The Boards of both CERC Canada and CERC USA are aware that the topic of homosexuality is a controversial one that deeply affects the personal lives of many North Americans. Both Boards strongly reiterate the Cathechism’s teaching that people who self-identify as gays and lesbians must be treated with ‘respect, compassion, and sensitivity’ (CCC #2358). The Boards also support the Church’s right to speak to aspects of this issue in accordance with her own self-understanding. Articles in this section have been chosen to cast light on how the teachings of the Church intersect with the various social, moral, and legal developments in secular society. CERC will not publish articles which, in the opinion of the editor, expose gays and lesbians to hatred or intolerance.

Please pray for me to be free of any and all traces of homophobia or truthphobia! Please pray that I may love my LGBT as if they were my flesh and blood siblings or Christ himself! Please pray that I may not cast inappropriate judgment but may only lead, guide, correct, love, protect, defend, and teach the truth and help minister to LGBT in reaching union and perfection in Christ. Please pray for wisdom for us all, opennes to truth, desire to love Christ fully without excluding parts of his message, and desire to accept, pursue, and love the grace, mercy, and love of God.

Each and every one of us, especially the LGBT, are created in the image of Christ as a unique and unrepeatable human being of infinite worth. May we each recognize this for now and always and act appropriately, taking care of ourselves as temples of the Holy Spirit that must be treated in a respectful and chaste manner, the way we would want to treat the Holy Spirit!

May we protect LGBT in the womb!

May Christ, Mary, and St. Joseph bless, keep, love, and protect you, especially you the LGBT reading this thread. :o 😛 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ :clapping: :dancing: :crying:

Oh yea. Those backward and unsuccessful civilizations of Greece and Rome…the poor Egyptians, they didn’t do much. Or the Chinese. etc, etc. I mean when exactly does one see the “dominance of the Western world”…maybe beginning around 1500: that’s an awful long time to wait for the payoff of an earth-shattering sexual revolution that supposedly changed the course of history more than a thousand of years before the birth of Christ.

And he admits that the ban on homosexuality sits side by side with the permission to keep slaves. Are we supposed to draw the conclusion here (given his argument in favor of the Bible’s moral authority) that just like Bible is right on calling homosexuality ok, it is likewise right on affirming slavery? I wonder if that will be his next wonderful article: how we need to recover the tradition of owning people so that we can protect the dominance of Western civilization. 🤷

salaam.

Very selective in reading I see
As for slavery, while the Bible declares homosexuality wrong, it never declares slavery good.
Did we read the same article as I?

It is legal. How bad can it be?

I did read it. His treatment of the Bible was lame (on top of the absurd historical thesis at the beginning). He made selective hay out of “abomination” while trying to gloss over the fact that people got executed for sneezing at the wrong time (which is not quite hyperbole), and approves of all sorts of things we find horrific (not hyperbole at all).

but I am glad you enjoyed it.

salaam.
