Hi, Im doing a presentation on thursday in school prooving that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.(this is philosphy class). However, were also suposed to represent the other side of the coin, and I honestly am not sure how to defend against these things that I found. Im suposed to come up with reasons why others relgions dont beleive in him as the Messiah, and I have to explain why my reasons are better then there…

Thanks for the Help!

For Judiasim we have:

The Messiah will lead the Jewish people to full Torah observance. The Torah states that all commandments remain binding forever, and anyone coming to change the Torah is immediately identified as a false prophet. (Deut. 13:1-4)

Maimonides devotes most of the “Guide for the Perplexed” to the fundamental idea that God is incorporeal, meaning that He assumes no physical form. God is Eternal, above time. He is Infinite, beyond space. He cannot be born, and cannot die. Saying that God assumes human form makes God small, diminishing both His unity and His divinity. As the Torah says: “God is not a mortal” (Numbers 23:19).

The Christian idea of a virgin birth is derived from the verse in Isaiah 7:14 describing an “alma” as giving birth. The word “alma” has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as “virgin.” This accords Jesus’ birth with the first century pagan idea of mortals being impregnated by gods.

<–how do i defend that?

Islam:

Do Muslims believe Jesus was killed on the cross then resurrected? NO

"“They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but they thought they did.” (Quran 4:156) “God lifted him up to His presence. God is Almighty, All-Wise” (Quran 4:157) .

Do Muslims believe he was a Messenger of One God? YES

Belief in all of the Prophets and Messengers of God is a fundamental article of faith in Islam. Thus, believing in Prophets Adam, Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them) is a requirement for anyone who calls him or herself a Muslim. A person claiming to be a Muslim who, for instance, denies the Messengership of Jesus, is not considered a Muslim.

The Quran says in reference to the status of Jesus as a Messenger:

“The Messiah (Jesus), son of Mary, was no more than a Messenger before whom many Messengers have passed away; and his mother adhered wholly to truthfulness, and they both ate food (as other mortals do). See how We make Our signs clear to them; and see where they are turning away!” (Quran 5:75).

Do Muslims believe that Jesus was the son of God? NO

"Say: “God is Unique! God, the Source [of everything]. He has not fathered anyone nor was He fathered, and there is nothing comparable to Him!” (Quran 112:1-4).

The Quran also states:

“Such was Jesus, the son of Mary; it is a statement of truth, about which they vainly dispute. It is not befitting to the majesty of God, that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be’ and it is” (Quran 19:34-35).

Well, Jesus was very clear on the fact that the people should follow the laws of Moses. He did not change those laws, but gave His viewpoint on them. There are several quotes in which Jesus emphazises that He does not go against the laws of Moses.

There are also some quotes in which he does make some changes. Such as the one in which he says: “One is not filthy by what comes in his mouth, but rather by what comes out of his mouth.” This seems to be rather a contradiction to wat the Torah says about eating certain kinds of meat or at certain times in the week.

As an answer to that, I’d recall that the ten commandments of the Exodus are not exactly the same as those of Deuteronomy. Why, appearantly God chooses his revelation to grow and change. The people of Jesus’ time were following the Law of Moses blindly, without the inspiration of God. An other sort of revelation was needed.

The soul and body of Jesus were taken up to God. The manifestation of God on earth does not mean that God the father and God the Holy Spirit are mortal or physical. I see not why God could not have a son (as part of Him) of earth. God can do everything.
The Christian idea of a virgin birth is derived from the verse in Isaiah 7:14 describing an “alma” as giving birth. Well, Isaiah’s choice of word ‘ALMA’ could both refer to virgin or young woman. In the Gospels it is revealed that it is both. So what Isaiah said was not untrue, and what the Apostles write is not untrue. For Christians, the Gospels are a continuation of the revelation of God. Jews don’t believe that. Nevertheless, if you see other predictions about the Messias, it becomes clear that Jesus complies with them all.

"“They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but they thought they did.” (Quran 4:156) “God lifted him up to His presence. God is Almighty, All-Wise” (Quran 4:157) .
That was written 600 years after Christ and based on nothing more that the supposed revelations of the angel Gabriel. Muslims are very oriented on scripture, yet this statement of Mohammed is not based on anything except for his delusional spiritual trip.
That counts for all his teachings on Judeism and Christianity.

Yeah, that’s really funny. Jesus said; “I’m alpha and omega.” The first and the last. As in, there will not be any other after me. The muslims believe that, but also believe Mohammed is the last prophet. Talking about impossible contradictions.

Yeah, and see how we follow a corrupt pedofile. Mohammed couldn’t even read. The signs he gave go against all that Christianity stands for. 'Who ever has not sinned, throw the first stone," says Jesus…Mohammed says:" Yeah, just stone every ***** that is possible guilty of some sin, even if she was forced to do so or if there is no proof at all.". Those guys are sick. How dare they talk of the Virgin Mary, when they treat their women as cattle.
Jesus explained the laws of Moses in a more human and loving way. Mohammed explained the laws of Moses in an extremist and violent way. If they see Jesus as one of God’s prophets, how come 9 year old girls are being stoned to death because their uncle raped them. How come the uncle isn’t dismembered publicly for inflicting such pain and shame on a little child. Muslims are satan’s beloved ones.

Well, if there’s nothing comparable to Him, why is it so hard to believe that he had Mary gave birth to His son.
So, when he says “Mary will bear my child”, He only says to it, ‘Be’ and it is".

You might want to post this same thread over at the Non-Catholic section of CAF board.
