California has a rich history, much of which I have read about, being a native of its southern regions. I recall we studied the missionaries and Father Serra’s establishing the missions while I was in elementary school in the 1950s. We even went on a field trip to Ramona’s Marriage Place, a mission and museum in the older section of San Diego.

As a kid, we attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima in Chula Vista, and I attended Catechism classes on the weekends, in the parochial school section on the Church grounds. I clearly recall the lovely Spanish architecture of this beautiful church.

MIssion San Luis Rey stands just outside of Oceanside, and that is where hubby and I renewed our vows shortly after our marriage by a Baptist minister who performed non-denominational weddings, and our renewing them in the mission made our marriage legal with the Church.

California’s history is rich, vibrant, warm and colorful. Not perfect, of course. No history is. But even at its ancient worst, it was a far better culture and environment than it is, today. And the climate still can’t be beat!

It’s just a shame that my home state has become the modern cesspool it now is. At one time, it was viewed as the ideal place to live, and people flocked there in droves. Today, its citizens can’t leave fast enough.

What happened???

Yea I agree its such a shame what has happened to this breathtaking state. I think partof the issue is the entertainment industry. prayers for CA!!

The hooligans have also torn down statues of Frederick Douglas and Ulysses S. Grant, who were vital in defeating slavery.
This proves that “racism” has nothing whatsoever to do with tearing down statues.
The rioters want to destroy America’s tremendous history.

I lived in Southern California during some of my elementary, and high school years. I remember we visited the missions on field trips in my public schools. A mission in Sand Diego, and the one in San Juan Capistrano where the swallows return. Very beautiful and informative. So sad one of the churches burned down in one of the other missions.

Apparently with the belief that they can simply “rewrite” history, and it will all be different. That moves along the lines of “Reality is whatever I say it is”, which can be exceedingly hazardous to one’s health.

What we have is an example of what has in the past been referred to as “bloodlust”, the emotional overwhelming of the senses often referring to warriors who are on an emotional jag.

Neither common sense nor rational discourse will stop this; they will either tire of their criminal behavior, or either police or national Guard, or a combination of the two, will reign in their behavior.

Archbishop Gomez had this to say about the current situation. Unlike those who have moved away in dismay or disgust, I remain hopeful for the future of both my beloved city of Los Angeles and my home state of California. It is up to us, the faithful, to keep telling the whole story of St. Junipero Serra and the times in which he lived, and not let his life and work of evangelization be distorted in a one-sided way.

I think it is more than just “part of” their dogma; it seems to be intrinsic to just about everything they propose.
