June 10th, 2007 Reception of Novices (Carmelites)

I have just found this “video” on YouTube. It is actually a set of still photos set to a very nice chant of the reception of novices here in Middletown.

I am the on one the far right in the Liturgy and in the back (blond hair) in the group picture where all of us are.

I’m curious, what exactly do Carmelite friars do? I’ve spent a year at college around Dominicans so I’m becoming familiar with what they do, but I’m very curious about Carmelites.

We have a number of high schools and we staff some parishes. We also have a couple of retreat centers. We also have some friars who work in universities, seminaries, counseling, and many who do spiritual direction.

There are six novices. Our Novitiate is an interprovincial novitiate. Four of the guys are form the Province of St Elias (also called the New York province). Two of us are from the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary (also called the Chicago province).
