June 3 - "...He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Last Sunday, we celebrated the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost. Monday we celebrated Mary under her title as “Mother of the Church”, recognizing her, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church describes her:

971 **“All generations will call me blessed”: “The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship.”**The Church rightly honors “the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs… This very special devotion … differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration.”…

972 After speaking of the Church, her origin, mission, and destiny, we can find no better way to conclude than by looking to Mary. In her we contemplate what the Church already is in her mystery on her own “pilgrimage of faith,” and what she will be in the homeland at the end of her journey. There, “in the glory of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity,” “in the communion of all the saints,” The Church is awaited by the one she venerates as Mother of her Lord and as her own mother.

In the meantime the Mother of Jesus, in the glory which she possesses in body and soul in heaven, is the image and beginning of the Church as it is to be perfected in the world to come. Likewise she shines forth on earth until the day of the Lord shall come, a sign of certain hope and comfort to the pilgrim People of God.

Today, Jesus confronts the Sadducees, with His Truth. Are we, His Church, listening?

Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection,
came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying,
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us,
If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife
and raise up descendants for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers.
The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants.
So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants,
and the third likewise.
And the seven left no descendants.
Last of all the woman also died.
At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be?
For all seven had been married to her.”
Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled
because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
When they rise from the dead,
they neither marry nor are given in marriage,
but they are like the angels in heaven.
As for the dead being raised,
have you not read in the Book of Moses,
in the passage about the bush, how God told him,
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob?
He is not God of the dead but of the living.
You are greatly misled.” (Mk 12: 18 - 27)

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful; kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in you as you continue to come to us through Mary by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

Dear Stephie,

Thank you so much, for your ever Faith - Full and loving “heart”. It is a blessing to find your “heart” waiting this morning It is sometimes disheartening to find no reply to a thread, not even a “heart”, although the stats show some have read the thread. That is ok, however, as I’ve remembered at such times and shared God’s Word: “Fear not little Flock” and also “Wherever two or three are gathered in MY Name, I AM there in the midst of them.”

The Mass Readings each day are so important for us – especially for those unable to participate in daily Mass and Holy Communion. God’s Word is called the the “Bread of Angels”, and how true it is – that Listening to Holy Scripture prayerfully, as Our Blessed Mother did, asking the Holy Spirit to continue bringing us into All Truth, provides us with
the strength of soul, we all need.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in You! Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St. Joseph, Protector of Jesus and Mary, protect us, His Church.
