Just a random thing I've noticed during Mass

Every Mass I attend, the people are really lively and reverent in their responses after Communion compared to the rest of the Mass…

when the priest rises and gives the “go in peace to love and server the Lord” conclusion, the whole building seems very lively when they respond and they all sing with alot of passion during the final song of the Mass

during the rest of the Mass, it kind of seems like people are just goin through the motions. Its like they are happy the Mass is finally over so they are more lively now.

I’ve been guilty of this myself, so don’t think I’m casting stones. I’m just making an observation

has anybody else noticed this?

The music and tone of the liturgy becomes joyous after Communion. It’s intentional. The organ will be louder, the cantor will sing stronger, the hymns will be more upbeat and joyous and the congregation will respond. Even people who are thinking about a football game have it resonate with them and act upon the joy of the Lord.
 
Is it possible that after receiving the Eucharist, they are more filled with the Holy Spirit and that is the reason they appear more lively?
 
Well at least they don’t start clapping to the beat of the recessional hymn at your parish. I’ve seen that before. I haven’t gone back to that parish since.

…And the Sign of Peace is an ice breaker as well.
 
To be honest, no, I have never observed that at any Mass that I can recall.
 
I actually noticed that at mass on Sunday. I think that what CDB1718 was partly correct. The tone of the mass does become louder and more joyous and people respond to this.

At the time I also wondered if it had something to do with those who left straight after communion. Those who do respond are no longer surrounded by those who are ‘just going through the motions’.

I know for me, not having to sit next to someone who is showing no interest in the mass does affect how I resond. I respond through the whole mass, but I’m a little quieter before communion.

I don’t know why.
