Still we aren’t stockpiling weapons or hazmat suits or packing bugout bags
I take it back. I totally did pack a bugout bag as the waters were rising and an exacuation seemed possible, but I wasn’t any good at it. It was a backpack full of: triple ziplocked birth certificates, sacramental records and insurance cards, ziplocs full of underwear and diapers for everyone and a bra for me(I wasn’t about to get taken to a shelter, told to change into dry clothes and then end up on tv with no bra…the things a pregnant lady worries about) and poptarts.

All our documents are still in the ziploc bags because…why not?

Cajun Navy,
I really do hope we in Los Angeles would all band together and help one another out, as we saw so admirably done during those floods. But I also worry that if things get dire enough, it could become survival of the fittest, with chaos and lawlessness like we saw during the L.A. Riots ☹️. That said, I’m still not arming myself with guns and ammunition, as that is my personal choice, and I’ll accept the consequences.

I have to say this whole prepper scene is odd for me. The best resource in emergency times is…surprise, surprise: a good relationship with your environment. I can stock food and arms in masses, but if I behave like a jerk or if I´m not tightly connectes with my neighbours, then the crowd will propably chose me to be the first where they loot what they need. I don´t expect those “survival of the fittest” scenarios atm, but IF, then I won´t have much choice. The prepper thing, after all, is a lucrative market.
That said, of course I store food - if you want to call this “storage”. I´m not much into conveniece foods and have the basics like flour and rice always at home. First because I´m too lazy to go to the supermarket every day, second because my persian roots say hello here (“a good persian household has always food for a whole company and smells like freshly cooked dishes”) 😊😁
The only thing I tried to make sure in the past was that there are always antibiotics and some emergency drugs at home, but because I had some health issues that would have required to see a doctor every time (and good doctors are not growing on trees while in germany, you can´t simply buy antibiotics without a doctor) I tried to store a bit at home.

Me either. We have one for home defense, but it doesn’t play in to any of my disaster prep.

Ok we totally have a little box of unfinished expired prescription drugs. Maybe I am more of a prepper than I realized.

Really great replies and ideas. While I wasn’t thinking of ‘preppers’ in the extreme sense there were a couple of reminders that I should take care of and that would be to have some extra medicine - or medical supplies on hand.
I have been through blizzards that did not affect me, but did affect others not far from me. I also took care of a gentleman that went through a blizzard around 1917 and his sister also had swine or Spanish Flu at just about the same time. They took her home to die, but she was too tough!
Anyway, my point is anything can happen at any time and one should consider this. I don’t think anyone needs to get paranoid, but should some of the basics on hand. I enjoy reading the relpies. Peace.

Oh my goodness! I just reread my post about my parents and realized it makes it sound like they grow marijuana or something. 🤦‍♀️ They don’t.

LOL! Fear not. I didn’t get that impression at all. I just thought you were selling extra produce from your garden or chickens!

I live in a part of the country where a destructive tornado is a real possibility, and having lived through such a thing in my youth I like to be prepared. (Palm Sunday Tornado Outbreak 1965).
