The title is self-explanatory. I just want to hear some arguments from both sides. Please state specifically what denomination you are a part of.

This is much too general. Topics on CAF are supposed to be specific and one topic per thread.

Greetings. I am a lifelong Protestant who loves the Catholic Church. I attend Mass and for years now have been studying everything from the Saints to the Catechism. But I stop short of formally joining Catholicism. There are a few points I just stop short of accepting, though that list gets shorter from time to time. If I find I’m in a position to defend or explain Christianity I do so from the Catholic perspective. If anyone were to ask me what branch of Christianity I belong to I would answer Catholic, unless they were wanting a more detailed expose’. Few people do.

Do you not realize there are actually more than 2 sides? “Protestantism” is not the monolith the Catholic Church is. There really is no comparing these two.

Peace!!!

I’m catholic and have been ecumenical with many Protestants. We don’t usually agree but we have fellowship.

I am Catholic. Convert from Protestantism, specifically evangelical/fundamentalist. In simplest terms; The catholic faith, at the heart of it, is based on Jesus Christ and the church he left. The Protestant faith is based on 1) the Bible, and many personal interpretations of it. 2) And Catholicism being wrong. (I’m not saying there’s something wrong with the Bible) That being said, I’m a catholic surrounded by devout Protestants. We can agree on a lot. But not everything. But it’s always in a spirit of charity.

I understand what you mean, being among Protestants in some parts of the country is common. I lean pretty far left on certain sins and such toward forgiveness and not condemnation. A sort of hate the sin not the sinner and moreso where the temptation to sin originates.

As a Catholic, the most credible evidence aside from faith, that Catholicism is the true Church, is that it is a visible family with a visible head ordained with authority to lead the visible flock. There is now 500 years of evidence that Protestantism cannot support a visible, global Church. It has only survived due to partition and agreeing to disagree about the will of God.

You do realize that is a tall order?

Any particular topic you would like an explanation about? Purgatory? How many Churches did Christ found? Did the Apostles leave anyone in charge? Real presence? the list is endless.

God Bless

There is already a thread going regarding the differences between Catholicism and protestantism in the non-Catholic forum. Do you have a specific question?
