Why do people have personality flaws? Some people are too sensitive. Some too insensitive. Some assume too much. Some are quick to become angry. The bible never really addresses this. If the Bible or the gospel is for all, why are we all so different? Why is the bible so complicated to understand/interpret? Two people can read the same passage come up with very different conclusions. Each person seems to emphasize certain parts of the bible more than others. Is this wrong/right? For one person, Jesus is more about love than anything. For another person, the law is more important. I think if each person decided to set up and run their own church, it would be so interesting to see how different each one would be. Each person would claim they are more loving and tolerant than the next. I guess these are all my own assumptions.

We are all different, that is certain. Saint Paul wrote that this is a good thing (1 Corinthians 12). Give thanks and praise to God!

As to why we have flaws and disagreements, it is because we are imperfect beings. Furthermore, we live in an imperfect society which makes it difficult to see and correct our flaws. I think the Bible has a lot to say about this. Some people would trace it back to the fall of Adam and Eve (original sin), but I say it is just the wild side of human nature. We are not always driven by love. Sometimes we are driven by fear, greed, pleasure, pride, and so on.

Do not despair. Part of the good news of the Gospel is that we can do our part to bring God’s love into the world and make it a better place. Jesus told us how, and the Holy Spirit guides and assists us. God allows us, and indeed commands us, to cooperate with him in order to accomplish his plan.
