Yes, today is a Holy Day of Obligation. I’m at work and I’m looking online for a few Churches in the area but they all have early Masses. By the time I get out of work, there will be no more Masses today:(

I’ll try to light a candle. My parish is usually open to the public till 9 pm.
I don’t know where in NYC you are, but most churches have a special Holy Day of Obligation schedule that is different than the regular schedule. Call your parish, or check your bulletin, they most likely have a 6pm or 7pm tonight.

You are obviously not completely unfamiliar with local parishes since you are having your child baptized at one. Find out today’s Mass times and go. I know it can be very inconvenient to change plans when you realize you have something very important to attend to, but it is not usually impossible.
Congratulations on your child’s baptism!
Actually we are not having our child baptized around here. We are doing it 3 hours away where we live, but we happen to be here for the week. I have found a local parish and will try to go tonight, although the mass is actually at my Infant and 2 year old’s bedtimes, which will be tricky (7 pm). Don’t know how I’m going to swing it, especially if I have to go by myself.

Oh, ok. I must have misunderstood. When you said you were at this house in anticipation of the baptism I thought you meant that you went to that area for the baptism. In any case, I am glad you found a parish to go to for Mass. I hope you can make it.

Managed to make mass. Got the 3 month old to sleep early and left the kids with the family while my hubby and I went. It was tough, but we made it!

I just realized this and we are out of town at a vacation house staying with family in anticipation of my son’s baptism on Sunday. We have a lot of plans for the day already. Am I obligated to find a Catholic church and attend mass? Thanks!
Just want to say I’m really happy to read that you decided to baptize your son.👍

Thanks! Hubby and I recently made a really good confession and we are doing our very best to be faithful Catholics! God is working in our lives 🙂

Wonderful! God will surely bless your efforts. What a great example to the rest of the family and to your children. From now on this Holy Day can be a special occasion for your family since it is so close to your son’s baptism anniversary.

Thank you ! What a wonderful sentiment! I am so excited for the baptism I can hardly wait 🙂
