I’m not sure what he meant when he said, “Stand in front of the Sacraments for 5 minutes.”

Maybe I misunderstood him or there’s a display in the church I’m not aware of, but he is a young Hispanic priest.

Anyone hear of this before? Thanks.

You could ask, but it sounds like he asked you to stand in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament for a period of time.

That’s probably it and I still don’t know where I would find that or what it looks like.

I would interpret as him telling you to adore the Eucharist resting in the tabernacle (or wherever else it is displayed, like a monstrance)

I believe the priest has the discretion to prescribe any penance they believe to be correct.
Sometimes it is reciting prayers like the Our Father and/or Hail Mary. It could be the Rosary. It could be a charitable act. Readings from the Bible.

Of course, why would you think different?

What might be a penance for me would be meaningless to you. There is no “one size fits all” in the confessional.

The Sacrament is in the Tabernacle of your Church (if the candle is burning). Stand there and listen to God.

I was just wondering if there is any system to penance or just whatever random activity a priest thinks up.

Ideally, it would not be “Whatever random thing a priest thinks up”, but whatever would be most beneficial to the penitent’s soul.
