Hi,
I am relatively new here probably won’t post a lot (due to lack of time). There is great information on this forum and I am so appreciative of all who do post. I have learned a lot and have found support for my faith journey. I just wanted to share my story.
I was married in Dec 2000. At that time I was Methodist and my husband was Catholic. We were married at the Methodist church, but my husband’s priest participated and blessed our marriage. I was divorced at the time and even though I did not have an annulment, the priest agreed to bless our marriage.
Fast forward three years and my husband comes to the understanding that our marriage was invalid due to my previous marriage. He asked me to have it annulled. It was very upsetting to me because we had discussed all this prior to our marriage. But he said he didn’t fully understand the faith at that time and now his conscious was telling him otherwise. And he insisted that we live like “brother and sister” until we had a valid marriage.
To make a long story somewhat short, I started the annulment process last June (awful experience) and received my official decree of nullity last week. So yesterday, our priest convalidated our marriage in a very private ceremony. I am so happy to have this experience behind me and to be living in conformity with the church’s teaching.
Oh, and by the way, I went through RCIA and was confirmed on Easter Vigil this year.
And they lived happily ever after…
God bless you all!
