“Therefore I, by the grace of God and the favor of the Apostolic See Bishop of the Eparchy of St. George in Canton, must declare to you, my people, for the sake of your salvation as well as my own, that any direct participation and support of this war against the people of Iraq is objectively grave evil, a matter of mortal sin. Beyond a reasonable doubt this war is morally incompatible with the Person and Way of Jesus Christ. With moral certainty I say to you it does not meet even the minimal standards of the Catholic just war theory.”

I guess since JPII never condemned the war, he was just remiss.
Oh well.

PROBLEM: reports that are 2+ years old are not “news”

ACTION: moved to Moral Theology forum

JPII never condemned Bishop Botean either.

JPII never condemned Call To Action. Does that mean that Bishop Bruskewitz is wrong to excommunicate all members of Call To Action in his diocese?

I suppose that if I was a Byzantine within his diocese I would care.

Never-mind the fact that this pre-dates the public knowledge of the level of corruption in the U.N.

Catholic2003:
Bishop Botean reconfirmed his teaching in April 2004.
I reckon he has the authority to do such if he feels that it is necessary. I don’t agree, but that doesn’t really matter, I’m not under his jurisdiction.

I’m rather curious as to why nobody has mentioned this before, if it was that big of a deal then the media would have gobbled it up, as well as others.
