Just what is a "Clown Mass"......?

In addition, the last 50 years we have changed the image of Christ, from saving us from sin through His dolorous passion to a buddy Christ (being reduced in most cases from God to a mere social prophet, neglecting the other aspects of Jesus’ ministry). If the Church is going the way I think it is (that is becoming more traditional in orientation). I wonder if we will see a fracture in the coming years especially in America where liberal (I don’t like to use the “L” word, but there isn’t any way around) bishops and parishes that might be tempted to leave all together either go in union with the Anglicans or Old Catholics.

There is much truth in what you write, I’m afraid to say.
Of course I don’t think that people wanting to do just the minimum hour a week it is necessarily a new thing. However some of the changes have probably exasperated them.

I don’t look for there to be additional fractures in the Church. The Holy Father is working deliberately toward a more traditional and reverent orientation. Also the Church is working with Anglicans to heal that schism. The Church is swinging back on course just as she always does. For Christ is our Light and Will Always Guide us.

Basically this is when a priest outwardly makes a mockery of the Liturgy. Inviting strange dancers perhaps to attend Mass and dance around at what should be a solemn time…basically when they turn the Liturgy into a 3 ring circus. There have been a variety of examples, so it’s hard to be exacting. Just sufficient to say - things just are not right.

THAT WAS DISGUSTING!!! I was asking myself was this Saturday Night Live??? I don’t watch Saturday Night Live hardly at all and that mass was something that SNL would have on. I think that when the Bishops we have now retire the younger generation will take their places and with our Pope we will see much change in the positive direction and the sacrileges we see now will be a distant memory. Bring back the traditional Mass before Vatican II. Scoob

That would be hysterical - ***if ***it were not meant to be a celebration of the Liturgy. Those big brown entities look like the statues on Easter Island. :eek:​

The quality of the singing is a warning, in its way. So that’s a puppet Mass. What’s next ?
 
Now, Cat. I think you know me a little bit better than that. I was primarily reacting to your comment about candles, etc. I am very sensitive on this subject because a) I live in a town without a Catholic church; b) the pastor of the mega Protestant non-denominational church is my across the street neighbor; c) We have votive candles with decals of St. Joseph, BVM, St. Michael, St. Jude on them that are not blessed but nevertheless work just fine during hurricanes; d) pastor’s kids and my kids played together; e) DW teaches at local state university; f) students of hers attended local mega Protestant non-denominational church…g)Did you know that we are witches? We burn CANDLES! 😛

As to my comments about people of my generation finding our voices? We have indeed kept silent these last 40 years. My bishop merely “acknowledged” the Motu Proprio in a one paragraph statement in the diocesan newspaper. The following issue, the diocesan chancellor published an “attack dog” article about how “nobody wants the Latin Mass”. I did not intend for that comment to be directed to you but rather the situation in general.

It’s OK for the diocese to sponsor liturgical dancers but the Mass of my ancestors is to be eschewed? We were banned from singing in Latin in my cathedral choir for close to ten years in the 80s. How do you think I felt holding a 1940 Episcopalian hymnal as a chorister in a Roman Catholic Church? And, again, I’m not directing that to you but rather the entire situation.

Gottle, this is nothing against you. Excellent translations into English of everything from the Triduum and all the great sequences. But, for someone who sang them in Latin as a child, it was like taking a shower with a raincoat on. “Christians to the Paschal Victim” is just not “Victimae paschali laudes”

So a big mea culpa to you Cat. I didn’t intend to challenge or “diss” you.😃
 
I just watched the “puppet” mass and when that dancer with the thurible swinging it, It would have been nice if it broke of it’s chain and hit the priest in the head and knocked some sense into him.
 
I used to get real upset at the term because I saw it as a logical shallow way or prejudicially lumping all main stream Catholics together, and it is sometimes used that way. However, I see now that the term is mostly used as an exaggeration of how far some priests are willing to deviate from what they are supposed to do. While it is not an urban myth, most of the pictures and video that have floated around the web have either been from Anglican services or from some event outside the Mass.

I don’t doubt they occur, though not as often some would lead you to believe. We even have breakaway Catholic Churches that think they have women priest, so nothing would surprise me. However, it is a violation of the Golden Rule when traditionalist deliberately imply that this is charateristic of the Catholic Mass today. They should consider how it would feel to be lumped with Pope Michael and his little break-away Church and it implied that this is the end result of Traditionalism. Sometimes trying out another’s shoes helps improve our charity.

By golly, this is disturbing. Equally disturbing is who designed that Church if it is a Church. It looked an office building. It is amazing how I research and read about what it used to be liked and how it is now, I am like wow. It is amazing, when I was growing up in the late eighties and early nineties, the nuns taught us to receive communion on the tongue, the altar boys (because they were boys) used a plate under each recipient. Then about '95 or so we moved and the new parish was nothing like it, music was bad, communion in the hands, it was kind of empty on the inside (compared to my original Church with marble floors and columns and a lovely tabernacle and statuaries). In fact, I really didn’t like and rebelled from attending there and didn’t go to Church till oh about eight years later, and the last five or six years I am becoming interested in reclaiming the Roman Catholic heritage that seems almost suppressed in most parts I go. Because I am really starting to see some Churches as New Coke and the other as Coke Classic (and then sadly there is the unfortunate Pepsi too in there mascarading around as Coke).
 
found some very scary looking videos on youtube involving the catholic priest wearing a clown outfit, with the other lay ministers also dressed up as clowns. Whats the deal with this??!!! some kind of a sick joke? (sorry if this topic has already been discussed)
