So a JW came in to my work and hung out with me for a long time, where I was helping him out. After he bought some things, he gave me his Church pamphlet and asked me to look into it. He had seen that CAF was open on my work computer (which is okay with my boss), so I didn’t feel that I needed to reiterate that I was Catholic. I just took the pamphlet and nodded to diffuse a situation that I didn’t want to escalate (since I was on staff). But now I feel somewhat guilty that I didn’t mention that I was Catholic. I know I didn’t sin, and I’m not scrupulous, but could I get advice from people on how best to deal with this if it happens again? I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings about their faith or be rude, but I also don’t want to compromise the stringestness of my faith. Thank you and God bless!

You probably did the right thing since you were at work and the JW was a customer (or someone not on staff).

But now I feel somewhat guilty that I didn’t mention that I was Catholic.

Never get into an argument or discussion about religion or politics with a customer. You did the right thing in this instance. The customer is always right even if they are 100% wrong.

Just take the pamphlet and throw it out later. It’s awful risky to get into a religious discussion with a customer. You boss may not feel too good about letting you have CAF open anymore.

Thanks guys; I just felt like accepting a JW pamphlet was akin to saying “okay I’ll consider this” when, in reality, I will never be a member of any church but the Catholic Church. A bit like lying. Again, I know I didn’t sin, but it just felt like I was being disingenuous.

Easy fix! keep a picture of the pope or some Catholic art pinned to the cubicle wall. Maybe a little statue of Mary. I’m not a catholic but that would definitely send a message and who knows someone may even wind up sharing a prayer concern. You don’t have to display anything flashy; it can be very subtle. I know when I visit people I don’t know personally my eyes are doing a major scan through out the room. I make mental notes of what books are there, music, all that stuff. Hang in there and be ready next time:thumbsup:

I will take anything anyone hands me including political literature at the polling booths, and say thank you to that person. Then look at it briefly and usually trash it. They are just trying to do what they think Is important. So I feel they are deserving of curtesy.

Well, technically, I guess you have considered it. You never committed to how long you would consider it.

Noting is better, or more effective than the truth.

Simply share that you ARE a Catholic. If you’d care to discuss our faith beliefs later, I would be OK with that.

BUT be wary: they are VERY well trained; use many of the same terms as we do BUT with far different understanding of what they actually mean; and appear to know the bible well; but actually have memorized only certain passages they think will give them an edge, to the truly uninformed.

If you are not solidly versed in explaining and defending our Catholic Faith; simply inform them you ARE a Catholic and not interested in what they have to say; OR bring someone with you who is well informed on what we believe and why and HOW we are able to believe and practice as we do…

They use the parts of the bible as a TOOL; and not for their own worship which uses the Book of Mormon.

Always pray and seek the HS before such an encounter:)

God Bless you,
Patrick
