THere is not one fact in the story that suggest the woman died from refusing a blood transfusion.

No surprise there, since I read it in the newspaper laying on my kitchen table, and that is the lying “Sun” newspaper, which I asked my wife not to buy because of it’s lies, it really is gutter press.

I only read the headlines, as it was frontpage news.

This is more on the mark than you realize.

The last mormon church service I went to was for the blessing of an adopted niece. My sister in law stood up to give her testimony and was all teary over how she knew now that God loved her, and how hard it was for her to spend a decade wondering what it was she was doing wrong and why God was punishing her by making her childless. I was fit to be tied!

That’s terrible! Viewing infertility as a punishment! Is this Mormon teaching? Is a woman only as valuable as she is fertile?

It is a complicated teaching. Girls are taught from age 12 that their purpose in life is wife and mother. A woman cannot reach the highest level in heaven without a husband. The highest blessing a woman can receive from God is that of mother. Everything that a woman hears in all women only meetings is towards this. Wife, mother, church, everything else is distraction.

In the case of my sister in law, she had received a very specific blessing, more like a personal prophecy, that if she were righteous God would bless her with children. So no children, not blessed, she must be doing something wrong.

That particular view is definitely a mormon view. Suffering=God is withholding blessings because you don’t have something straight in your life.

Wow! Now, I am NOT a feminist by any means and I would like to be married. But even I find it the height of sexism to believe that a woman cannot reach the highest level of heaven if she does not have a husband.

Once again, wow! Talk about a mind job, believing that every time you suffer it’s because you’ve done something very wrong or God is punishing you.

Yeah, it was the thing that initiated by exit out of mormonism. These specific things are part of a whole, where as a teen I saw all of it as nothing but trying to put me into a box.

Later in life I did some more research and wrote a paper about sexism in mormonism. It helped me wrap my head around my experiences and define what I felt from a young age.

I meant the majority of Catholics who have been commenting on my posts here on this board.This is the arena in which we are currently discussing these things.

There must be many specific examples for you to cite from the “majority of the Catholics” you’ve heard.
