I am divorced and my ex converted from a Catholic to JW. How do I explain the differences in the religion to my children who are 12 & 4 at their level of understanding?

I guess you really need good information. I would suggest that you get a copy of Beginning Apologetics # 2 from San Juan Catholic Seminars here: catholicapologetics.com/

It’s not a difficult or very lengthy booklet but it’s a great study that will help you teach your children how to understand (and maybe even answer) their dad’s JW beliefs. It might even help you talk to him. The booklet is only like $5.95 and 40 pages long (8x11 format) and easy to understand. The 12 year old might even like it too…depending upon how mature and into reading they are.
Hope this helps some.
Pax vobiscum,

Pax vobiscum,

Marcus Grodi has some great material on this. His show today on EWTN had a former JW member, now a Catholic. You may be able to get a tape of this show from EWTN.

You tell them that their mom’s religion is a cult full of extremely gullible whack-jobs with no ability to apply basic reasoning skills to their knowledge of religion and faith…

Maybe not in so many words, but IMO, I would not validate her religion, as it is false.

Umm, I have a sneak suspicion that the originate of this post is the mom and that her HUSBAND is now a JW.

With kids that age it shouldn’t be too hard to compete with the JW’s. Just ask your kids if they would like no Christmas, Halloween or birthdays.

Oops, you’re right. My advice still stands 🙂 Don’t poison them against their father, but it won’t be doing them a favor to convince them that they’re “both right” or some other such non-sense. JW’s are not right. If it was another form of Christianity, it’d be another story altogether. JW’s aren’t Christians.
