ok, in a nutshell, a good friend of mine is a JW. We chat everyday and we have known each other for a very long time, way before I knew she was JW (didn’t even know of religion then) and way before I came home to the Catholic church.

Anyway, my son school is selling raffle tickets for a fund raiser. Each ticket has a chance to win more than once. It is a 92 day raffle where a ticket is picked each day and tossed back in for more chances to win. The prizes are gift cards for major stores that value between $50 and $100.

I told her I was going to buy her a ticket…she wanted to discuss this with her hubby, as she really didn’t want to purchase a ticket. It didn’t dawn on me at the time that this kind of fund raiser could possibly be against her religion.

So, does anyone know if it is? I really do not want to offend her or hurt her feelings…she is a very dear friend. If it is than I will apologize to her and write my name instead.

Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut.

Does your son go to a public or Catholic school? If it’s a Catholic school there is no way in the world she’d want to contribute one red cent - or even have you contribute in her name. If it’s a public school the only thing I can think of is she’s taking a hard line stand against gambling. For a lot of JW’s even a raffle ticket would be a no-no. Things that seem harmless (like a raffle ticket) are never no-big-deal to a JW. They hold fast to the thought that if you are faithful in small things you’ll be faithful in big things. That is just my guess. If she’s a good friend why not just ask her?

P.S. I’ll take her tickets if she doesn’t want them! 😃
