Keep dreaming of old girlfriend

I have had a difficult time getting over an old girlfriend who i had alot of feeling for

i was told to forget about her and stop thinking of her many times by Priests
although i can still pray for they said

its hard to forget about her as every so often she appears iin my dreams and we have intimate(not sexual) moments and it seems so real like she is passing messages onto me

basically in the dreams she is letting me know she loves me also and feels the same ,i wont go into what exactly she says or what happens though

and its like i believe she still prays for me also and gives me love by praying because at times its like i see signs around me or hear things that make me think of her and make me believe that shes praying for me

How am i supposed to forget about her and stop hoping when these things happen?

Hi. From what you have just described, I would say not to worry about it. Try to move on, but do not attempt to suppress your feelings or memories for this girl.

Say some Ave’s and *Hail, Holy Queen *s. Pray your guardian angel to watch over your dreams at night and pray for strength against any temptation that may come therein. Say the prayer to Saint Michael too.

You sound like a bit of a Romeo. Dreams, according to Shakespeare at least, need to be taken with a grain of salt: Queen Mab and all. They’re a part of life. You probably have a very artistic soul if you’re having such vivid dreams and they are making such an impression on you. I would consider learning some art form like writing, poetry or painting, etc. We have an amazing patrimony of artistic tradition in the Church to learn from and be inspired by. Perhaps letting some creative drive out during the day might grant you more peace during the night.

Well you already received two good answers, but I’ll add my two cents anyway.

I would accept your dreams and your feelings first and foremost. Trying not to feel them or trying not to think thoughts will probably make you think of them even harder! Better to say, “I am thinking/feeling ______. Okay.”

Then tell Jesus the same thing. And add, “I want to do your will. Please come and correct my thinking or my feeling if its wrong. You know the future. If this is wrong, I trust in you to redirect my attention. If these thoughts are from evil spirits trying to ruin my soul, then I command them to leave in your name and ask that You send them to the abyss. Thank you Lord Jesus. I trust in you.”

Then never worry if your feelings are wrong. Just acknowledge you have them and remember you are trusting Jesus. He may correct these feelings all at once clearly, or it may instead just dawn on you overtime. Meanwhile, if you doubt yourself, remember you have already entrusted it to Him, and say, 'Jesus, I trust in you."

Don’t second guess if you did a good job entrusting to Him. He knows your intention. I have loved what Scott Hahn said in his book, Rome Sweet Home, which began my path to conversion: “If a thing is worth doing, its worth doing poorly.”

with these feelings i pursued this girl and got rejected and in trouble with doctors and police

So ive given up on her and havnt prayed for her any longer because i was hurt by her

but as i mentioned she is in my dreams and she says things to me that shows she loves me and is interested in me

and signs which i mentioned about before, you know things that act like coencidences in our life but which we can believe are not coinencidence

i think these things are helping me with that pain of rejection though and when i got in trouble because of her and was very unforgiving of her and upset at her

but i tryed with her and got hurt and rejected so i dont know what all this is about,

ive had alot of pain over all this through the years
