Kenning: a compound expression in Old English and Old Norse poetry with metaphorical meaning, e.g., oar-steed = ship. Contemporary English also contains kennings, for example: bookworm, rug rat, peace officer, cottontail, dragonfly.
In this thread, you’re invited to be a wordsmith, posting your own kennings. (Here’s a great site giving useful tips on how: Land of the ocean-noise: create your own kennings! – Young Poets Network) I’ll start with a couple.
GRASS: earth hair
RAIN: sky tears
Now it’s your turn!
