Does anyone know of a Catholic church in the Mayfield, Kentucky area that will distribute Holy Communion on the tongue?

The diocese of Owensboro has suspended the ability of the faithful to receive on the tongue. I don’t think they are allowed to do this, but they have.

It would be a bit of a drive but maybe try calling Immaculate Conception parish in Earlington. According to your diocese website they have Latin Mass every Sunday, so if they distribute the Eucharist it will be on the tongue. I don’t know anything about them (just searched online trying to help you out) and they don’t seem to have a website, but worth a phone call.

Thank you. I had given up the search, so I just went to a local and prayed for the best. It worked out though.

Under normal times, it would be improper.

Under the circumstances, it’s common sense.

As my priest commented, saving lives trumps all of our other religious duty.

And the short answer? Just obey your bishop!

The article linked has already been discussed here and others more knowledgeable than I have pointed out both the author’s bias and potential misinterpretation of canon law.

why would you risk getting the covid virus, when you can recieve in the hand??

The bishop could also simply suspend Masses again if people are unwilling to follow commmon-sense steps to prevent spreading this disease.

Whether a diocese/bishop is technically allowed to make such a restriction is certainly questionable. However: one should respect the bishop’s authority anyway and receive on the hand, or not at all.

Is it so important for you to receive on the tongue that you feel the need to travel outside your diocese to find somewhere to receive on the tongue?

Honestly, during this time, I’m just happy to be able to receive communion at all (despite the fact that my preference is receiving on the tongue).

It’s not clear from the website (Immaculate Conception Parish – Diocese of Owensboro ) whether it is a Traditional Latin Mass (EF) or the Novus Ordo in Latin (OF). I don’t think the latter would have COTT only. This is just a default website provided by the diocese and doesn’t have particulars such as the parish bulletin, announcements, and so on.

I used to rely on the OF Latin Mass, when I could get to it, before the EF became available. Very nice.

This topic has been beaten to death on CAF over the last few months. It is really simple.
  1. It is perfectly licit to receive the Eucharist both on the tongue and in the hand.
  2. There is NO rule that makes one more holy, reverent, better, sacrilege, or any number of things one may want to call either one.
  3. We are in the midst of a pandemic that has not been seen in 100 years. The Church is doing the best it can to deal with the dangers of COVID.
  4. Our Bishops are having to make difficult decisions all around. Who would have thought a bishop would ever have to decide to suspend public Mass?
  5. Bishops throughout the world have declared dispensing the Eucharist in the hand is safer, from a COVID point of view, than on the tongue.
  6. What we personally prefer and believe about how we receive is not a consideration of the bishops right now.
  7. Many of us are just so very grateful to be able to receive again, we’ll received in the way the priest will give.
So here is my advice to you @ConMan, receive our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament with grace and gratitude, giving thanks you are able to receive at all and get over yourself.

Jesus Christ left us his Church to serve him, to spread the news of him, to worship him, to be with him, to bring others to him. I hope you are seeing my point here. The Catholic Church, Christ’s Church is all about him, not all about us.

I love how threads like this go. A person asked a very specific question that had nothing to do with COTT vs CITH debate. He didn’t ask for people’s opinions on the matter. But yet here we go with the debate again.

Unfortunately, he brought it up in his second and third posts.
