It took me a while to decide to post this.

But...

If anyone needs prayers, he does.

I had some debate with myself considering the gravity and heinous nature of his crimes.
My immediate thought was that we should pray for his victims.

However, prayer is not a zero sum game. One can pray for everyone involved and it does not diminish the effectiveness of any of the prayers.

I realize this one is hard.
Feel free to ignore.

No, you're fine. It is hard to imagine anyone more in need of prayers.

Some pro-choice people profess to be horrified by Gosnell's deeds, to which I would like to ask them, what exactly makes what he did different from other abortions that you seek to protect?

Yes we must always pray for public sinners, as with everyone else.
We have no idea if there was a chance for a conversion when a person is dying. It may take only a moment for us, but for God it can be "an eternity". If a person is contrite and is forgiven on their deathbed, then they will have to spend a long, long time in purgatory. Praying for their souls is an important and charitable thing to do. We are commanded by Our Lord to "pray for those who hate you" -- in other words pray for those who die in (apparent) mortal sin. We do not really know the bounds of God's mercy ... or His justice.
