Ouch, think this will make the major news?

lifesite.net/ldn/2004/sep/04092001.html

This is my favorite quote in the piece
Ortho-McNeil claims the death rate from its patch is “consistent with the health risks” of taking the Pill. According to them, the Pill kills 0.3 to 1.9 women out of every 100,000 15 to 29 year old users. Smoking significantly increases the risk of death.
Doesn’t this say something!

John

I thought this line was telling: “A spokeswoman for the UK’s Family Planning Association told the BBC news that ‘Women shouldn’t suddenly stop using the patch as they could then be at risk of unplanned pregnancy.’”

They talk about pregnancy like it’s a sexually transmitted disease. Ever hear of abstinence? Of if these women using the patch are really worried and don’t want to stop fornicating, don’t they at least have the self control to wait until they can get some other form of birth control? Sheesh!

The “death rate” from the patch is “consistent with” the risks from the pill?!! But don’t discontinue either one, because then you risk “unplanned pregnancy!” I am speechless.

And I was wondering what causes pregnancy. There you have it, taking a drug and then stopping. It’s a good thing many are so addictive.

To be fair tho, most of the deaths are from idiots like me who smoke and take the pill. But I’m an addict and suffer from amenorhea so whatever. I’m not willing to quit as it’s the only thing that keeps me sane and I’ve given up all my other vices saving the occasional beer at Fenway, and my employer isn’t willing to give me two weeks off a month.
People die from blood clots, there’s the same risk(though it can be greater or lesser) if you’re taking almost any medication (interactions with activites, other medications or even body chemistry) hence warning labels.

Artificial birth control isn’t inherrantly evil, the purpose it’s used for is what is defined as evil by the Church. I doubt that God is really ticked off at me for taking something thats getting me out of bed and being a productive member of society. (and it is that bad, the boyfriend crashed at the apt this weekend, and I was up popping advil every 30 minutes I was in so much pain, and this is a marked improvement from when I wasn’t on the Pill)
