I’ve always wondered if it is OK with God if you kill during a war, or say sacrifice yourself for the good of others.

"Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. " - John 15:13

Is this saying that sacrificing yourself to save others is acceptable?

And is it acceptable to kill if you are drafted into a war?

If you’re killing other soldiers I don’t see how you would be culpable. My very fallible opinion:whistle:

CCC 2321 The prohibition of murder does not abrogate the right to render an unjust aggressor unable to inflict harm. Legitimate defense is a grave duty for whoever is responsible for the lives of others or the common good.

The catechism does however have a lot more to say about killing and war. Check it out!

“No murder” doesn’t mean you can’t use the force that is necessary to stop an attacker. Such defense is a duty for those who are responsible for protecting others.

How’s that?

Hello Kyle,

Moses came down Mt. Sini with the ten commandments. One of those commandments states Thou Shalt Not Kill. Moses found the Israelites worshiping a golden calf and having orgies. Moses could not get control of the situation so he rallied the Levites to draw their swords and slay their own countrymen in order to gain control of the situation. They killed about three thousand that day. The Levites were given a special place as ministers for the Lord from that day forward for what they had done that day.

There is murder which is against God’s commandment and there are times when it is God’s will that man kill.

**NAB EXODUS 32:7 **

With that, the LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once to your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, for they have become depraved. They have soon turned aside from the way I pointed out to them, making for themselves a molten calf and worshiping it, sacrificing to it and crying out, ‘This is your God, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ I see how stiffnecked this people is,” continued the LORD to Moses. “Let me alone, then, that my wrath may blaze up against them to consume them. Then I will make of you a great nation.”

But Moses implored the LORD, his God, saying, “Why, O LORD, should your wrath blaze up against your own people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with such great power and with so strong a hand? Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent he brought them out, that he might kill them in the mountains and exterminate them from the face of the earth’? Let your blazing wrath die down; relent in punishing your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, and how you swore to them by your own self, saying, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky; and all this land that I promised, I will give your descendants as their perpetual heritage.’” So the LORD relented in the punishment he had threatened to inflict on his people. Moses then turned and came down the mountain with the two tablets that were written on both sides, front and back; tablets that were made by God, having inscriptions on them that were engraved by God himself…

…When Moses realized that, to the scornful joy of their foes, Aaron had let the people run wild, he stood at the gate of the camp and cried,** “Whoever is for the Lord, let him come to me!” All the Levites then rallied to him, and he told them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Put your sword on your hip everyone of you! Now go up and down the camp, from gate to gate, and slay your own kinsmen, your friends and neighbors!” The Levites carried out the command of Moses, and theat day there fell about three thousand of the people. Then Moses said, "Today you have been dedicated to the LORD, for you were against your own sons and kinsmen, to bring a blessing upon yourselves this day**."Peace in Christ,

Well I’m serving proudly in the United States Army and from what I know that doesnt conflict with my Catholic teachings. I’m really looking forward to joining that Army that gonna free the holy land , but the Pope hasnt called up the reserves yet.

Even Pope John Paul II, who was extremely worldly politically against the Iraq war, never used his power to bind supporting the Iraq war as mortal sin. Pope John Paul II and other Popes did bind the use of birth control as mortal sin. Pope John Paul II may have given the fasade that it was the Iraq war and captial punishment that were the greatest death causing evils in the world. Yet niether of these actions were held bound as mortal sin by a Pope which would cause supporters spritual death. In reallity it is seven to nine hundred million Catholics headed for eternal damnation over the papal binding of birth control as mortal sin which is causing infinitely greatest loss of life, spiritual life, in the world.

One has to look closely at what a Pope binds as mortal sin to differentiate what is truly the greatest evil in the world. Though a Pope useing mass media access to promote his political agenda on American war gets far more coverage, it is still what the Pope binds as mortal sin which is the most deadly. Obviously it is the loss of spritual life in the Church which greatly outweighs any loss of physical life in the world.
