Clearly KJV-onlyism is ridiculous. But how are we supposed to view the KJV? Is it defective? Is it too Protestant etc?

Yes KJV-onlyism is ridiculous. It isn’t a Catholic Bible and therefore should be avoided. In my opinion the Douay-Rheims is the most accurate English Bible. It is is a word for word translation of the Latin Vulgate. It is ok to use other Catholic translations. I mostly use the Douay-Rheims and the Latin Vulgate. I use other Catholic versions for various reasons. As far as the King James Version. It is the most accurate of the Protestant Bibles widely available. If one can find a copy of the Geneva it is better than the KJV. I would stay away from anything that doesn’t have a Bishop’s Committee aproval, Nihil Obstat or Imprimatur.

Why do you say that? I would have thought just the opposite. The Geneva Bible was one of the Bibles that the original DR decried (the KJV still in the future.) It was the Puritan Bible, which was too radical even, for the KJV translators, who were aiming for a middle road between the Geneva and the DR.

King James I despised it not the translators. The Bishops Bible was used as a basis for the KJV
