Why did the Romans call Jesus the King of the Jews when the Jews never believed that Jesus came? Isn’t that what the Jews believe…In everything before Christ? If so then what where the disciples…I thought they were Jews as well?

When Jesus was before the Jewish Sanhedrin, Caiaphas the high priest asked Jesus if he was “the Messiah”, the long expected King of the Jews. And Jesus confirmed that he was the Messiah by saying, “It is you who say it.” (Matt 26:64) The charge the Jews brought against Jesus before Pilate was that he called himself “the Messiah, a king.” (Luke 23:2) Pilate asked Jesus if he was the King of the Jews and Jesus confirmed it, saying, “That is your term” (Luke 23:3; also see John 18:33-19:22) Pilate wrote out the charge against Jesus as being “King of the Jews.” (Matt 27:37) When the Jews complained that Pilate should have written instead, “This man claimed to be King of the Jews”, Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” (John 19: 22) Pilate’s motives for writing what he did are not clearly stated. Here are some possibilities:
  1. Pilate was convinced that Jesus was the King of the Jews so he wrote what he wrote.
  2. Pilate, who was not particularly fond of the Jews, desired to show his contempt for them and this was his way of ridiculing them.
  3. Pilate didn’t have a large enough board to fit all the words of the larger charge, writing it out in three different languages, so he settled for the shorter charge. 😉
Most but not all the Jews rejected Jesus. The Apostles were Jews and they accepted Jesus as their Messiah, their King. In fact, as recorded in the first chapters of Acts, at the preaching of the Apostles after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, many thousands of Jews came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the King of the Jews, and became Christians too.

Why is it that Jews till this day are looked down upon? Why are they still ridiculed and put in jokes like there is an evil among them? I still don’t understand the Hilter situation and why he persicuted them, but why does it still happen today? My elders speak of Jews like there is still something wrong with them. What was ever wrong with the Jews?

Here’s one possible theory:

Todd Easton’s three reasons why Pilate might have written the charge seem to cover the first part of your question.
Jesus’ disciples were Jews, as were most of the early Christians. In fact, a controversy arose when Gentiles began to become Christians about whether the Gentiles needed to follow the Jewish law because Christianity was seen by some as a religion primarily for Jews. (The decision was that it was not necessary to follow all commandments of the Mosaic Law, such as dietary restrictions.)
As time went on, however, more and more Gentiles converted to Christianity. Many Jewish leaders in the synagogues rejected Christianity, and so Christians began to distinguish themselves from the Jews who rejected Jesus. As Catholics, we believe that our faith is Judaism fulfilled. We don’t intend for Jewish people to be persecuted for what happened 2000 years ago. Only those who are intent on distorting the true message of the cross could use that as a justification for discrimination against Jews.

In regards to Hitler…he persecuted the Jews becuase he felt they were corrupting the country…taking over. And it continues today because people believe that they are still trying to corrupt, take over etc.

Anti-Semitism did not begin with Adolf Hitler, as hatred of the Jews can be traced back to Martin Luther, who published a pamphlet entitled On the Jews and Their Lies. Very chilling. It would appear that anti-Semitism runs long and deep through German history.

I never said hatred for Jews started with Hitler. Hatred for Jews runs deep in many countries not just Germany!

No need to excuse Germany’s hatred of the Jews. Yes, I am well aware of the rampant anti-Semitism in the world. It exists in the United States as well. See the Henry Ford link I posted for just one example.

The fact that Hitler was born in Austria means little. Austrians resisted annexation by Germany and Austrian Chancellor Kurt Von Schuschnigg refused all of Hitler’s ultimatums to submit to German authority. Von Schuschnigg wanted to hold a plebecite to let the Austrian people to decide if they wanted to be annexed by Germany. Hitler, knowing any vote would not bode well for his plans, ordered his army into Austria and declare the country part of Germany. The fact that Hitler was born in Austria had little to do with the country itself. Hitler’s beliefs were more in line with German anti-Semitism via Martin Luther (whom Hitler admired for his Anti-Semitism, rather than his “reforms.”) than anything else.

Why have the Jews been persecuted for centuries???

Because Jews have an inate ability to lift each other up from the gutter when they are in trouble, with loans to start businesses, and commercial loyalty when buying products from other Jews. This, and because they usually keep to themselves, separated from other religions, usually makes them an easy scapegoat for other people’s problems.

NotWorthy

P.S. The fact that they kicked Egypt’s, Syria’s, and Jordan’s tails in 6 days (!!!) didn’t earn them any brownie points, either!

Jesus was crucified as a rebel againsrt Roman authority - the title was to describe the charge on which He was condemned

Pilate stylized the Christ as the “King of the Jews” because he was ridiculing Jesus’ power and was challenging His authority. Nothing more, nothing less. He proved His authority three days later when He was resurrected. See my signature, which translated from Latin means, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” 😉
