Does anyone know who the King was at the time of the Crucifixion?
Herod was at the Nativity, who was the King at the end of Christ’s life?

Herod Antipas, son of Herod the Great, same guy who married his SIL, got it off with her daughter Salome, and whose antics inspired denunciation by John the Baptist. He and Pilate, procurator of Judea, were close, well at least as close as two pitbulls each with a full plate of meat. After Herod’s death I think the Romans had enough of puppet kings and carved up the territory differently and set up other governments with Roman apointees in the newly formed provinces.

The Gospels say Jesus was sent to King Herod Antipas during his trial - remember, Herod asked for a miracle which Jesus refused to perform? No-one who’s seen JC Superstar can forget it, it’s the subject of a fantastic song.

Herod Antipas
Herod Antipas was only tetrarch of Galilee; he wasn’t even king in the full sense of the word. After Herod died, his son Herod Archelaus succeeded him as ethnarch of Judea, but was deposed and exiled in AD 6. Judea was then converted into a Roman province under a procurator. The procurator at the time of Jesus’ death was, of course, Pontius Pilate.
