KJV Troubles

Currently I only have a King James Bible (I did get a New American Bible, but it didn’t come yet). Unfortunately, it is very difficult to read, and has frequent archaic words, and because of this, it is easy to lose focus on it. Do you have any tips on how to read, and focus on the King James Bible with ease (other than having a dictionary right next to you)?

Some Catholic Bibles in modern English are available online. For instance, you can read the New American Bible online at www.usccb.org/bible/books-of-the-bible/index.cfm. The Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition, can be read online at www.biblegateway.com

I just read part of 1 Kings chapter 6, and I have already noticed it is way easier to read than the King James bible! :extrahappy: Finally I will be able to focus on reading the bible, rather than guessing what all the words mean.

If you are going to join RCIA I would recommend the Didache Bible. It’s commentary is based around the Catechism and it is the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition 2nd Edition from Ignatius Press. I own it and it’s a great bible.

Hey! Welcome to the Catholic Church!

I know what you mean about the KJV…the Douay-Rheims is from the same era so it can be challenging as well. I have no problem with it, but I use other more modern translations like the RSV and the NAB so try both of those online in the meantime until your hard copy comes in.
