Knanaya Catholic Naveekarna Samithy and ORCHART (Oravanakalam Charitable Trust) organised a Knanaya Renewal conference in Kottayam on 20th December, 2014. The conference had written message of Hope & Blessings from Major Arch Bishop Basiliose Cardinal Cleemis, present CBCI President & and Major Arch Bishop Kuriakose Bharanikulanga of Faridabad Diocese.
The objective of the conference
The Family Synod called by the Holy Pope and held recently in Rome inspires this conference. The Pope during the Synod encouraged Bishop’s all across the world to bring forward to him problems that are burning issues which break up Catholic families around the world. Pope also encouraged the Synod not to be worried that the issues being raised will hurt the Catholic Church and encouraged all Bishops to listen with open ears to the burning family issues. The purpose of this 1-day conference is to bring out issues relating to Knanaya endogamous practices that are affecting several families within the Kottayam Diocese. Families that are divided due to the church sponsored endogamous practice are against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Lay people will debate this in a scholarly manner during the conference
Book Release.
During the conference which was inaugurated by Supreme court Justice K.T Thomas and Dr. Gee Varghesse Mar Curilose Methrapolita, the Book titled “Blood Weddings” was released in English & Malayalam. A total of 250 books were distributed during the conference and copies of the book was posted to all Bishops in India. Organisers also received a call from Apostolic Pro Nuncio for a copy of the book which has already been posed, The Malayalam version of the book will also be posted to all Parish priests of Kottayam Diocese for making them aware of the issues raised by the conference organisers.
The conference was featured well in all the local Malayalam daily news.
